Re: School trying to make helmets compulsory

Shoddy journalism from the BBC does not help, full of clichés: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-hampshire-42345928/girl-says-cycle-helmets-should-be-compulsory "'A helmet saved my life' A year after her life was saved by a cycle helmet, a 12-year-old girl from Hampshire is calling for th...

Re: Mozilla v 57.0

Looks good so far, have had trouble with Firefox using to much CPU and freezing up on my old Win7 PC (mainly when running YouTube and Facebook concurrently) and this update seems to have fixed it.

Re: Cycling as a whole; losing the plot...?

From https://gravelandgrind.com/open-source-shifting/ "Shimano, round about 2003, decided to abandon normal bike riders. They snuffed the flame on tourists, casual riders, mountain bikers who have to ride to the trail head, mountain touring, or any one who needed gearing that fell outside of co...

Re: Bicycle without Receipt

What's to stop a thief registering a stolen bike as theirs? When you download a certificate it has the date on it. If the bike is fitted with RFID the thief will not know the tag number. A criminal would have to be pretty stupid to put their personal details on a site the police have access to. The...

Re: Bicycle without Receipt

I registered all my bikes on https://www.immobilise.com You can add identifiers (frame numbers, immobiTag RFID number etc.), list the parts and add photos. You can also download and print item certificates.

Re: Far too good to be true

One of the e-bikes pictured on that dodgy website was at Eurobike, has a rrp of £5,499, not the £399 they claim. Scamadviser.com says Eurpop.com (owner Gueijuan Xu) is suspicious, the domain age is 38 days and as such doesn't have an online reputation yet. http://www.ruff-cycles.com on the other han...

Re: Fulcrum Racing Sport Freehub

Discovered the Shimano LX freehub on my Thorn Audax bike had seized when I checked it a few months after last using it in the winter. Removed the seals and flushed it with some GT85, which got it moving but it still felt rough. Using a Lidl's Parkside mini grinder tool I made a freehub disassembly t...

Re: Shimano and Campag Triples

Got a Sora GS rear mech on my Bianchi road bike with 53/39/26 chainset, and Sora SS rear mech (around 7.5cm between pulley centres) on wife's road bike with 50/39/26 chainset. They have 11-32 9 speed cassettes, both shift fine (as well as the SGS rear mechs I've used on the Bianchi), and can shift i...

Re: Presta Valve Secret/Warning

I like Continental tubes but the inner cores are often not done up tight enough at the factory. I bought a Park VC-1 tool and now check they are properly tightened before use and have not had any problems since.
