Re: Scottish Borders Bus service X62

This looks good. Is there a charge for the bikes?
And, do you know if any other bike routes out of Edinburgh that takes bikes?
Thanks

Re: Why I like single touring

My first tour abroad was the Pamir Highway with 3 of the nicest folk you could wish to meet. I hated it. Group touring was not for me. Too many variables/ desires/ etc. Maybe it would have been better to only stick roughly together. Each to their own of course. I think I decided to do it for safety ...

Interesting. Thanks
I use my card for 10% off at Cotswalds. I hope this hasn't changed.

Re: Cycling out of Edinburgh Airport

I've done it twice. No problems leaving empty box at airport. Ride to Waverly Station in 40 mins. Duel carriage way but Ok. Pm me for details Thanks. Did you have to take it apart and find a bin, or did you just unpack at baggage reclaim and leave it there? Did you ask permission? Good question. As...

Re: Aberdeen/Manchester/Dehli

Ah that sounds quite a low stress way of doing it actually. Rajasthan sounds amazing! We'll, yes. Pretty stressful free but I do worry. At each link/ stage if something goes wrong the rest of the sequence is buggered up. Train late or Evans can't pack at last minute, I sometimes think that if it ca...

Re: Aberdeen/Manchester/Dehli

I live in Aberdeen and want to catch a flight from Manchester. Thinking of a train down with my bike, have it boxed by Evans and then taxi to airport. I did a similar arrangement when flying from Edinburgh. Any thoughts / opinions, folks? I prefer a boxed bike to a bag. Mind you if you've done it b...

Re: Newcastle to Heathrow?

All good comments above.
May I ask what your bike plans are when you reach Heathrow?
Box it up a ship home?
I did see wrapping facilities there but not suitable for bikes. Are you carrying something for packaging the bike?

Re: Taking Bikes by air - where to store the packaging ?

All my tours abroad have been fly in fly out from same location. Hotels always happy to store my bike and packaging. I always take extra tape for repackaging box. After the humidity of Sri Lanka where the tape pealed off as fast as I applied bit, I now take the best quality gorilla tape. I also take...

Schwalbe 2" for me along the Pamir Highway. Very tough in places.
I've kept them for a return trip.
No punctures.

Re: A82 Loch Ness

I've ridden it twice, both time N>S and summer midweek. First time I wondered what all the fuss was about, we'd spent ages discussing whether to take it or do extra miles. The second time I swore I'd never ride it again and I won't, almost constant stream of coaches, motorhomes and caravans all pas...

Re: Choosing touring tyres

I use 1.75 for around town and country tracks.
I used 2" for my Pamir Highway trip. Lots of tough road surfaces.
Only down side was they were so so slow on tarmac. Like pedaling with the brakes on!
But that was a good price to pay.
No punctures??
