Re: New tourer with a triple chainset

You could go with a mtb crankset if you need really low gears if you use bar end shifters (aka my galaxy) that should do then trick

Re: Which B17?

I have a standard B17 on my Galaxy and never had any comfort problems and I can ride it all day. I picked it up quite cheap (from Wiggle I think) and thought let's see what all the fuss is about. The best thing is it keeps me a bit cooler in the summer months compared to a plastic type.

Re: CARRADICE BAGS WHICH ONE

No sway on my SQR either. The bracket is a very simple but clever device that works really well. Just make sure that you have enough seat post showing.

Re: CARRADICE BAGS WHICH ONE

I've got a SQR tour and it's great, I use it every day for my commute. the SQR bracket is great and doesn't move and the build quality is fantastic. The only downside is you will need a fair amount of seat post showing.

Re: GPS - Garmin vs Bryton

I've had a Bryton 50 for only two weeks but so far so good. I really didn't want to pay a huge amount so I went for the base model without heart monitors. It took a little while to get up and running (mostly down to me!) but I like the fact that you can manage your rides on "Brytonsport" v...

Re: Cycling in Paris

I was sent by work to Paris for a couple of days and spent an afternoon renting out on the "Velib" cycle hirer thing. I found Paris a great city to cycle in although as with all main cities it does pay for you to have eyes in the back of your head. I just wished I could have stayed longer....

Re: Dawes Galaxy - which one

I have a standard Galaxy and love it (631 tube). The ride with 32mm tyres and a brooks sadle is fantastic. It does everything I want from a bike. Yes something lighter would be nice sometimes but it's one tough bike that's taken everything I can throw at it. The only thing slightly wrong is that it'...

Re: Cylist killed on the A 38

I go along with everything Richard F says. I wouldn't cycle down the A38. In fact it's got a bad reputation for "normal" road accidents, and Burton is a very poor place to cycle (and I love the town). I never knew Patrick Kenny but looking at the list of his achievements I wished I did, my...

Re: how comfortable are hybrid bikes ?

I've got a Ridgeback Velocity and a Dawes Galaxy. For town riding the more up right Velocity gets my vote. For long days in the saddle the Galaxy is my choice

Re: Best Innovations of the last ten years?

for me it was "discovering" 26" slick tyres. I put these on my heavy old MTB and it turned from being an instrument of torture to something that I used more and more. This then led to the purchase of a hybrid, then a tourer......and now I'm here! SPD's, LED's are great also. Oh and 63...

Re: Booking trains more than 12 weeks in advance

and just to add.....

I ordered my ticket with cycle pass from cross country trains and guess what it came without?? Yes no cycle pass

Thankfully my friendly station (hurrah Burton on trent) came up trumps

should I get my wheels trued?

Hi folks,

I'm just about to start my first tour on my Galaxy. I've never had any problems with the wheels in 1500miles but should I get them looked at before I go? I won't be carrying much more than I do on my normal commute.

Thanks for your help!

Broken bar end shifter?

Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice on my bar end shifters that I’ve got on my Dawes Galaxy. For the last couple of weeks the indexing has become a little “hit and miss”. I originally put this down to my grubby chain and/or sticky cable but on closer inspection there’s a little plastic ring that has...
