Re: Went for a ride

I live on the edge of a small village down a single track lane with grass growing in the middle of it. Ideal you would say but nearly all of my rides start with an 8 miles route through Telford Newtown as every cycle group in the area meets the opposite side of the town

Re: HEDGE TRIMMING

I have had 2 punctures due to thorns in recent weeks. Its amazing how they get through Kevlar bands, . Thorns are so strong in one direction but then weak in the other and often break off when you are trying to extract them. They usually cause slow punctures in my experience, as the tube seems to cl...

Re: Cycle friendly Wetherspoons

I find the one in Market Drayton very handy for club runs , area out the front you can sit in or park your bike in and see it from inside the pub. Planters on wheels . Paraplegic friend on electric handbike . We are able to move stuff around and get him in and sit with him, this is often not possible

Re: Cycle - You must be banned or poor

Twice this week I have bumped into people I have not seen for a while ( generally related to one of my other interests tennis) and they ask how the cycling is going , and then go on to assume its all to do with charity rides. I ask the do they just play tennis if charity

Re: Cycling with dementia

My father had dementia and went out on his bike one day and came back without it , probably went to the shops and forgot and just walked back home with out it . He then used to go walk about and on 2 occasions we had to let the police know we had a missig person . I would try the general tracker rou...

Re: Milton keynes

I live near Telford , also a newtown , but a little different from MK in that half of it pre dates the new town and its not flat , hence we do not have a grid system . More of a series of communities with ring roads around each and all of the original town centres were pedestrianised and bypassed, I...

Re: The Tragic Proliferation of ‘Drive-Cycling’

I would say I drive to about one in five of the rides I do , I generally avoid doing it as it wastes cycling time and I often end up forgetting something, once on the bike I know I have everything I need. I drive to the start of the races as they are over 10 miles away and its not easy on my bike to...

Re: Tar and chip resurfacing on busy A road?

I have mixed feeling on the subject. It can be definitely tricky for cyclists . I got stuck in some on a Tandem in a hot period , not good, and I do wonder there choice of the roads they use it for , which generally seems random to me , but here in Shropshire they have reduced the road budget by £10...

Re: Can road bike time trialling revive the TT scene.

Most open TTs have a vets prize , there are handicap tables for those over 40 based on age. Our club Wrekinsport have a cup for roadbikes . Most points over a season , Number of regular club TTs in our area has gone down more than half . Number of riders in open and interclub TTs is similar despite ...

Re: Seat Reservations with Cycle spaces

Booking a ticket and cycle reservation for a single trip on Virgin took me 25 mins through their Indian call centre. Its easier at stations , but you need to look prices up on the internet first to get fairs that are any where near affordable

Re: Close encounters of the agricultural kind

I cycled back from the Pyrenees through France to Dieppe last year travelling 750 miles. I counted only 2 large tractors , the type that are standard in the UK for which it is unusual for me to do a ride and not encounter 10 in a morning , always with a very large trailer behind

Re: Future of Urban Mobility

It is mobility scooters You can drive on the road or pavement Up and down the super market aisles They dont take up the room of a car No sweaty effort required and can maintain high speeds even on the pavements I dont think the future is ...
