Re: A noob asks... what is the point of toe clips for a commute?

I use half and half pedals ( one side plain the other with SPD) gives me the option . I ride to tennis in tennis shoes , cant be bothered with a second set of shoes . Yesterday did 40 miles in tennis shoes and no clips. Only noticed it on hills where I tend to get out of the saddle and missed the su...

Re: Why do drivers think this acceptable?

Had an interesting one this weekend on a trip to London I cycled up the lane marked for cycles to the advanced stop / bike area. Most of the area was occupied by a taxi pointing slightly to the left . I was there on inside a little behind . We were stopped there about a minute . I was thinking of ta...

Re: Cyclist 50% to blame for hitting pedestrian

I think there should be laws against walking and reading your phone at the sametime. By laws might be more appropriate than national laws, no strong opinions on that bit

You have to laugh

I was cycling down the lanes to my friends yesterday , usual local lanes roughly 3 meters wide and a small van came hacking around the bend towards me in the opposite direction . Much faster than you would expect or was safe. So I waved at him to slow down . He then as he was passing me took his han...

Re: Recommendations for novice 115kg female

As others have said depends on your budget. I am 103 kg and have no problems with bikes. I have cycling friends who have been a lot bigger, they tended to write off the odd wheel occasionally on road bikes. Sounds like you are on a fairly limited budget. I always subscribe to the philosophy with any...

Re: Who are the best/worst drivers on the road?

Horse box trailers and lorries with horses seem the worst to me and its ironic that they when not in vehicle are the most vulnerable road users. Last week I was travelling on a b road and one pulled out of a minor lane , they saw I was there but pulled out regardless, so close I had to apply brakes ...

Re: Bike for rider over 300 pounds

With that low budget , I think the best bet is an MTB off something like ebay , it should give you strong enough wheels . You will just get a few more breakages than most particularly spokes, just ride carefully dont go down the hills too quickly

Re: Went for a ride

I live on the edge of a small village down a single track lane with grass growing in the middle of it. Ideal you would say but nearly all of my rides start with an 8 miles route through Telford Newtown as every cycle group in the area meets the opposite side of the town

Re: HEDGE TRIMMING

I have had 2 punctures due to thorns in recent weeks. Its amazing how they get through Kevlar bands, . Thorns are so strong in one direction but then weak in the other and often break off when you are trying to extract them. They usually cause slow punctures in my experience, as the tube seems to cl...

Re: Cycle friendly Wetherspoons

I find the one in Market Drayton very handy for club runs , area out the front you can sit in or park your bike in and see it from inside the pub. Planters on wheels . Paraplegic friend on electric handbike . We are able to move stuff around and get him in and sit with him, this is often not possible

Re: Cycle - You must be banned or poor

Twice this week I have bumped into people I have not seen for a while ( generally related to one of my other interests tennis) and they ask how the cycling is going , and then go on to assume its all to do with charity rides. I ask the do they just play tennis if charity

Re: Cycling with dementia

My father had dementia and went out on his bike one day and came back without it , probably went to the shops and forgot and just walked back home with out it . He then used to go walk about and on 2 occasions we had to let the police know we had a missig person . I would try the general tracker rou...

Re: Milton keynes

I live near Telford , also a newtown , but a little different from MK in that half of it pre dates the new town and its not flat , hence we do not have a grid system . More of a series of communities with ring roads around each and all of the original town centres were pedestrianised and bypassed, I...
