Re: Mudguards - a minefield

Back can be easy if no suspension. Guards wide enough then if no eyes for the stays use P clips. At the front , with suspension you can't fix the guard to both the fork crown and the bottom of the legs as normal. Best you can do is a motocross type bike affair mounting under the fork crown only.

Re: 9 into 7 won't go.....

I have done the same as the Utilitycyclist on half a dozen wheels to fit 11 on to 10 so why not do the same, especially if its nearly there? Is it a 7 speed free hub? If not why not bung on an 8 and up speed freehub? I know that, in theory, there are many versions etc but in practice if you raid a f...

Re: Handlebar + bell

My bell lives o the seat post. As its used to warn people of my existence it is rung before I get to them and my hand is back on the bars before I get close.

Re: Should we be pushing for greater fairness in C2W?

Fairness is treating everyone the same, not penalising them because they are luckier or capitalising on this luck.

Re: Going Tubeless - What Size Tape??

I have had success with tape a bit wider than the rim inner. It spreads up the walls at touch. If you are looking at "proper" tubeless tape you can buy similar stuff from ebay for much less. Look for yellow Tesa tape in 10m rolls.

Re: Shoe sizing

In theory 8 equals 42 and each Euro size is 3/4 of a UK size. In practise it means stuff all so don't buy shoes you can't try on. That can be tricky as we all want a big choice so all you can do is find shops with free o cheap mail order returns. Don't believe your mates or the web , at best its a v...

Re: changing a cassette - Shimano Sora

Tried an extender just to see what could be done. It worked but wasn't as good as without. I suspect that it was just one more thread in the system and thus one more weak point. MTB mech was no different. That are cheap so may be worth a try.

Re: Tenting/Camping LEJOG

Much better that way. I remember a visit to Maine in the early 90's when English pubs were trendy over there. You could buy beer by the pint in handled glasses. Bar staff were not happy when I pointed out that a fifth of the pint was missing. All very amicable though.

Re: Support vehicles and "rules".

Doubt it matters one bit. After all it's just a long bike ride with no rules. Going for the record is of course different but I doubt anyone really gives a what ever otherwise.
Just have fun.

Re: Front derailleur capabilities - source?

"I assume that there must be a higher level of documentation which helps you to decide which components you are going to use in your build (assuming that you don't just order the whole combined groupset). That is, if you decide that you want a 28/38/48 front triple then you can look up which co...
