Re: Servicing for rental bikes????

Last time looked that one was knackered. Suspect that something in a less public place might survive.

Re: Who are the best/worst drivers on the road?

Commercial vehicle drivers of any sort. There appears to be the general attitude that as they drive for a living they are more important than other road users as well as being better drivers. They seem to want to be everywhere to soon and are obviously far to important to wait for a few seconds. Ind...

Re: Tubeless Tyres on Tubed rims

MTB types have been doing it for years. Search "ghetto tubeless" . it's pretty idiot proof with a bit of care. I have used duct tape, insulation tape, a bmx inner tube split and currently Tess tape. It is like parcel tape. In theory tubless rims are easier but I have had no fauliures with ...

Re: No Its Not A Mobile Phone!!!

I've been saying the same as Lance for years. Stick at least 2 or 3 zeros on each and every fine and there is the funding to pay for more enforcement. Sure there might be a few hardships but that's tough. its hard loosing a family member to an idiot driver. Some people will be more careful, and othe...

Re: Two sets of brakes?

Could do I guess but I would have the discs (hydro) operated from the tops. Bog standard MTB brakes and thus no fuss and rim brakes from main lever. Also no fuss. The only limitation is that you would need older 25 ish mm bars and depending on your brakes maybe a touch with a file. Did this to creat...

Any driving unlicenced or insured obviously means you don't care so prison. The idea is to scare people into behaving.

Re: Nick Freeman Attacks "exceptional hardship"

How about something more reasonable? Say a years ban for every mph over the limit? No exceptions whatsoever. An idiot is still an idiot even if he thinks he has an excuse.

Re: Helmet with visor.

Planet X flog Carnac helmets. Several of those are punted as aero/TT helmets. A mate had one of the more conventional ones and reconned that it was over hot.

Re: Road Bike V-brakes Conversion to MTB Disk Brakes

I wouldn't bother. Forks don't look disc compatible so that's a new set plus all the headset Gubbins. Wheels, brakes etc. If you have the 650b wheels try for fit. If not its too expensive. No way of telling if they would fit without trying anyway. Sorry to knock your bike but its worth at hundred qu...

Re: knock off Disc Trucker

I'll put money on it weighing a ton. Have yet to find a modern steel bike that doesn't unless its custom made or very very top end like those Genesis race bikes. They advertise Reynolds tubes but its usually the main tubes and the rest is made of railway track. A rep told me that its all to do with ...

Re: Camping spares

a) find a shop that does Vango spares. They exist, honest.
b) try a big outlet that does their own brand stuff and spares. They are all much the same. Vangos are not unique.
c) Knock up a bag from another or an anorak sleeve
d buy bungy cord off the reel or even cut up Pound shop bungees.

Re: Direct mount front mechs.

Stuff them then. I want a SRAM top pull, ideally with a braze on mount. All to avoid the silly pulley set up currently on my CX bike which has top tube cables but a normal bottom pull mech.
