Re: Are my times average or good

I would say that its not too bad really for the age, experience and medical history. I would also say keep at it. Worst that can happen is terminal but you have overcome close to that before. Your body will say when its overworked, keep going until then. To extremes you can go out with a bang or a w...

Re: Brittany Ferries Now Require Helmet, High Vis and Lights

Having watched a stack of cyclists use BF a fortnight ago I can say that it is not enforced. Might I suggest that they are treating cyclists like all other pedestrians within the loading area. Of course most of them work there. They waer hi viz, hard hats and vehicles have ligjts. At least they are ...

Re: Travelling to off-road cycling

Interesting in some ways although I wonder what is intends to achieve. The posters comments don't really say. The fundamental issue is that most people don't live in the nice places to cycle so have to get there. Any method of travel apart from personal car is not efficient and not pleasant. To achi...

Re: Crankset problem - Stronglight triple

I had something similar albeit with a different set up. I put it down to the fact that whilst the chain should be in a fixed position at the front, it isn't when changing chain rings. If it's on the biggest at the back it's coming forward at more of an angle that if it was on a little sprocket and p...

Re: Canti straddle wire - is it special?

I have been chopping down old cables for decades. Never given it a thought. Only replace them when the ends get too chewed up.

Re: Help with Campag triple compatibility.

Should you manage to find an older mech it will, in my experience work with almost any chainset. I used a Shimano MTB chainset for many years with my Old Campag set up. It didn't use all of the mech throw wither way. I currently am using an ancient Record road mech with a triple set up that it wasn'...

Re: Inside the stem unknown part

Beat it down far enough to get another on top! Put that in carefully. Spare bolt in thread and tap gently. You can get tools but why bother?

Re: Disc brakes, hydraulic versus cable

Please show me 15 miles of down hill in the Uk that needs both brakes. What a wonderful ride. On or off road?

Re: Disc brakes, hydraulic versus cable

In my experience turning a bike upside down doesn't let air in. I guess maybe it could but never heard of it. However as mentioned an inverted in has drawbacks that make it a iffy idea anyway.

Re: Father calls for cycle ban(after son's death)

Silly. Why ban something dangerous because its killed someone? It wasn't the road that killed it was the driver. Cycling on that road isn't mandatory, it can be avoided.

Re: Disc brakes, hydraulic versus cable

I'll counter the above. :D a. Lack of brakes will never stop you getting home. 1 will almost always do and in the very few circumstances where it won't, you can walk down. In the UK it can't ever be far. b. Hydro brakes almost never break. Never so much had even a trivial failure . Pad wear doesn't ...

Re: tub rims for a track bike

Typing this with sticky fingers. Tub cement, having just bunged a new one on my TT wheel. Undoubtedly a high quality modern tyre with a latex tube will ride better than most tubs but you could say that about lots of things. Buy decent tubs not those Vittoria Rally ones or the cheapy Conti. Tufos rid...
