Re: balcony road from bourg d oisans

Just keep within your braking distance. I din't notice any problems and I'm a cowardly descender. Some of the balconies have a bit of rock fall. Just the odd one but hitting it wouldn't be good. Tunnels not long. You can muddle through without lights but a small one will make it fun.

Re: Are bike carriers safe?

mjr has a point.
it's not the mounting, it's a matter of design matched to vehicle plus the intelligence of the user.

Re: balcony road from bourg d oisans

Its was fine last June. Quiet and perfectly rideable.
Used that website for a weeks rides. The road up to Oulles is fun and the Sarenne is spectacular. Easier if done "backwards" with Alp dHuez first. La Berade is nice and quite and the Notre Dame route is different.

Re: What is a Gravel Bike?

I am somewhat perplexed about some of the comments that suggest that the industry should be guiding people to buy bikes that suit them. Why for goodness sake? That's poor business. What they should do is convince some poor fool to buy something totally unsuitable every year. More money that way. To ...

Re: What is a Gravel Bike?

A late 80's mountain bike with drops and discs. I like winding gravel fiends up by calling them ATBs as they are going away from being a gravel bike. I regard this as coming from the Yanks who have miles of non tarmaced roads covered in gravel. Events and rides were fast and sporty. Here we have lit...

Re: Single chainset MTB

Get a cheap MTB triple and move the outer ring to the middle. Chain line will be near enough and it won't matter that much. Older types are 28/38/48. Newer ones are 22/32/42. The inners won't be moveable to the middle but the outers and middles swap. Then buy a old mech and cheap freewheel. Make is ...

To be honest I find cheap fleece gloves as good as anything unless its slashing down. Also a fan of Venitex work gloves. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Delta-Plus-Venitex-FBF15-Mens-Fur-Lined-Leather-Winter-Thermal-Ski-Work-Gloves/121531989958?hash=item1c4bdeffc6:m:mbA2IRlcfTniWRPy2KG7JXQ. Re: Recycling helmets

I take them to school. Excellent for mounting horns onto for viking days. Good basis for donkey masks for the nativity play as well.
That's given me an idea! A screwdriver "display"/store.

Re: Camping togs for men Guardian Style

Not so sure people pay money just be informed. We should chuck in an element of being assured that what we already know is "right".
As for the ad, it's obviously an attention seeker and thus has worked. Actually, silly jackets aside, one or two items might be OK and relatively normal.

Re: Second-hand e-bikes?

As with anything battery driven, assume the batteries are knackered. The rest is so personal as to be up to you. Any design will have its fan's. Try to talk to people who do what you do and do nothing without riding first.
Did I mention batteries?

Re: Why wear black?

My mum would bang some heads together here. What a miserable bunch. It's like the Roadcc forum. People should be ashamed of themselves for personal attacks, taking things out of context, total irrelevancies and worst of all outrageous thread drift. Grow up and go for a bike ride!

Re: "Race" or "Endurance" bike ?

OP. Common sense says try a few but then buy what's fun. Stuff the silly idea of thing bring sensible, good value or whatever. If you have the cash spend it. If you hang onto it it will end up being used for your care home in your dotage. Why not do what so many do? Enjoy yourself and let someone el...
