Re: Shimano/SRAM incompatible now?
From experience, cheaper SRAM chains are not overly nice to use. Noisy and don't shift well. Even cheap Chinese stuff seems better.

Re: Techniques for braking on steep descents
The theory is that you don't drag your brakes or at least alternate them. Brake hard then let off. Doesn't seem wise on short sharp twisty descents . The answer is, I suspect, rest the brakes, maybe by alternating. Go in dead slow so you don't build up much speed maybe?

Re: Bad adjustment or normality ?
My new bike was much the same. I think that the adjuster was wound right in from the start. The cable may have been threaded with the mech set for the smallest sprocket and pulled very tight. It all changed perfectly until I needed to take out the new cable "stretch"/bed in.
I do the same thing when building a bike but always start with the adjuster a full turn or more out so there is scope to slacken the cable if need be.
Not helped by many new Shimano mechs have clicky adjusters not a simple thread. You can only turn in fixed increments.

Re: GCN+ closes What are the alternatives?
Without going back to check, I think, when fighting my way through the menus and displays , I saw a few documentaries. A friend involved in the production of the GCN stuff reckons that that side of things has been binned. Not enough mainstream value. I like, other keen cycling mates, only watched a few of the videos. Too much variation so I cherry picked. Don't really miss it as I regard telly watching as time wasting. This would have been recognised thus showing a limited overall take up.
The techy, news stuff is still there via GCN on Youtube of course but the cycling documentaries have apparently died just as the "Cycling Channel" did a few years ago.

Re: GCN+ closes What are the alternatives?
Ok , thanks so far but any more tips. Switch on via the Firestick and set Disco + up. Expected to have to pay but it only gave me the option to add it to the Amazon prime account. Fair enough. Suspect I could have forced it but no issue.
Anyway, up popped the Tour of Flanders so we watched it live.
All good. Just tried to do the same and I can't work out how to go to Eurosport. The icon is there but it wants me to log in but doesn't recognise the Disco+ login. Do I need to create another account?
Any bright ideas.

I had much the same. Spaced the rotor out and reset the caliper.

Re: Pre-purchase bike sizing in Cumbria?
You need to know what bike you, want.
Normal way would be to consult manufactures charts for that bike and alternatives. That is usually pretty good and works enough for thousands of bikes to be bought that way with no trouble. If the bike is only for sale on line you can only do that. If it can be bought in a shop or online visit a shop and then do the dirty on them after availing yourself of the their services.
You can't get someone to tell you what bike you need as all bikes are generally sold slightly differently. You can get a bike fit which may help but will probably cost a couple of hundred quid and all that will tell you is what the dimensions might be .

Re: GCN+ closes What are the alternatives?
Sorry to drag this one back!
Has anyone here set up Eurosport, via Discovery, on an Amazon Firestick. I guess we could use the wife's Amazon Prime account but that may not continue. I am a complete techno-numpty and can't work out how it happens or what I get. In the old days of Eurosport player or GCN I could watch all sorts of cycling for ages after it went live.
Is this still possible. Eurosport website is a bit vague in this respect as far as I can see.
Thanks.

Re: Broken Chain! I’m a complete amateur
I would start by looking at the rest of the gearing set up. Is something bent? Stick a new chain on and rotate.
You say that you are new to this? Is the damaged link one of those quick release ones? Just a thought. Might be able to just get another if so.

Re: New Bike New Rubber...?
Is the bike a higher spec model? Shame to spoil it, if it is, with some bits of hose pipe. Robust and nice to ride tend to be exclusive. Compromise or pick one.
New bikes are rarely set up tubeless but it may be possible if it floats your boat. Even my commuter is tubeless.

Quite possibly Brucey. My attitude to almost everything is to ignore or better still stay ignorant of limitations like this until I prove to myself that they don't work. I am mostly ok and doubt I have ever broken anything.

Re: ...a safe way to turn a bike over
As Colin or stand behind it, grasp bars with rear brake on and pull towards you. Don't rest it on the bars and seat. Better to lie it on its side or will that mean risking a back injury bending over? If the OP is so worried about harm they are surely going to be worried about damaging safety features like brakes. You could crack a master cylinder cap.
We have reputation here of being polite rather than honest but am I the only one who actually found this either some what amusing or rather annoying in a nanny state sort of way? Do people really need a video for such things?
