I too had an Olympic as a youth, on this very forum I asked if anyone had one, with a view to restoring it. I was lucky enough to be given a tired early to mid eighties Falcon Professional by a lovely chap who had used it for amateur racing. In trying to find out more about its history I was involved with the following forum in the USA: http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showth ... ost2798695 ,it is a goldmine of information from some real Falcon enthusiasts.
Here is the Falcon, now completely restored.

Re: Falcon frame mystery
Thats a good idea, sadly I can find no dates on any of the components as yet. It seems to have even the experts stumped, on the retro section of road bike reviews a couple of very knowledgable gentlemen have likened (& posted comparison images) it to an early eighties Clements (same prugnat lugs, 531 Professional etc), but no one is aware of other Falcons with chromed shimano dropouts or the Cinelli fork crown detail. If I could locate a good clear image of an early to mid eighties "azure blue" professional model, at least I could use the colour as a comparison in order to restore it to its original spec.
The feeling is this may have been made by someone for Falcon as a display machine, yet I am not convinced, it has Falcon stamped into the fork crown.
I hope someone can solve the mystery.....

Re: Falcon frame mystery
Thanks Russell & PW, following further investigation, it seems likely that the bike is a San Remo Equipe or Professional 276 model. It has Prugnat lugs & a Cinelli CSM bottom bracket shell. it would indeed have had the Ernie Clements script on the chainstay.
I am not certain of its age, would anyone know how to locate the information from the frame & fork number which is stamped 2000?. I understand Falcon records only go back to 1989, the bike is certainly older than this.
Has anyone got a Falcon catalogue from the eighties?.
Many thanks. John.

Falcon frame mystery
Hi,
There seems to be a few vintage Falcon officionados on the site, so I was wondering if anyone could help with a Falcon I have acquired, with the intention of restoring it.
I understand the bike was purchased between 1982 & 85, the previous owner cannot be certain, he does recall it was blue with 531 decals. It was resprayed in the early nineties. he cannot recall the model name of the bike, presumably there were no decals originally other than Falcon script & downtube letters. It is fitted mainly with Dura-ace ax & he remembers it was very high end & some sort of display machine for components in its day.
The dropouts are chrome & have shimano sfr? stamped on them. The bottom bracket has Cinelli & what appers to be SC along with a frame number of 2000, this is underwritten by what appears to be made in Italy. The fork crown has Falcon stamped on both sides & the lugs are like no other Falcon (of any vintage) I have seen. Despite the strong surface rust, there appears to be no terminal rot or internal corrosion, therefore any help regarding what it is & what colour/livery it would have displayed would be greatly appreciated.
