Re: Catalyst pedals, Flat pedals, Foot Position, Knee Pain

531Colin, I'm just 3 years before you in age. That post is one of the most informative I've read for a long time. I realise things change with age but for some reason just thought I would get slower & have loads more aches & pains; never thought about how my contact points might alter. I hav...

Re: Catalyst pedals, Flat pedals, Foot Position, Knee Pain

The pedals I've modded are SPD-SL road version, not SPD MTB type. Because I've got 20' full movement (10' either side of neutral), the minimum release angle is 10', not the 3' that comes as standard when using yellow cleats with un-modded pedals. Guess it's a small price to pay. Haven't keeled over ...

Re: Catalyst pedals, Flat pedals, Foot Position, Knee Pain

I was wondering how my knees have lasted for 30 years if they've been held in what would appear to be a very unnatural position. I have noticed that for the first couple of miles or so I start with my feet in the "old" position & then they settle into the new very pointy in position. I...

Re: Catalyst pedals, Flat pedals, Foot Position, Knee Pain

I was going to start a new topic called "arthritic knee and amount of cleat float" and then came across this one. I've been road riding for 30 years (now 68 yo) and always used clipless. Had quite a few bike fits & cleat position was generally unaltered; Shimano SPD-SL yellow 6' float ...

Re: Total Knee Replacement - 10 months later

After some issues with my right knee 12 months ago I modified my position by increasing saddle set back from 70 to 100mm & got Mike Burrows to shorten my cranks to 150mm. I also modified my Shimano pedals to give a lot more float. I believe the shorter crank gave the most benefit as the shorteni...

Re: Swap Drops To Flat Bars .... What Do I Need???

Have a look at Soma Condor 2 drop bars. They have a centre rise of 50mm, a short reach of 63mm & a drop of only 100mm. They also have a slight flare. A bit costly at £100 but could get you 50mm higher. Don't know if that's enough. Re the stem riser option, that's only for an aluminium steerer. I...

Hi Dragonrider,
Which levers are you using with the BB7's?

Re: How to get a TRP Hy/Rd caliper to work

Would the fully mechanical TRP Spyre have the same problem of "lever to the bars" with older generation levers?

How to get a TRP Hy/Rd caliper to work

There seems to have been a lot of issues with this caliper and older road levers not giving the best pull ratio leading to the levers pulling all the way to the bars. During a bit of Googling, I've seen that some have got the system to work by clamping the inner cable on the underside & opposite...

Re: Tool bag?

I use a Decathlon "hydration bag 3l" with the shoulder straps almost totally removed but then sewn together so as to hook over the rear of my m5 carbon seat. Then cut off most of the lower strap each side & sewed on a length of Velcro. This sticks to 2 bits of "opposite" Velc...

Re: Expanding foam in a carbon frame?

A bit more info. Apart from the frame & seat post, there are no other carbon parts on either bike. The noise I hear is from the chain meshing with the chainset, cassette & jockey wheels. It does become quieter for a little while after lubing. As mentioned, I swapped all transmission parts (w...

Re: Expanding foam in a carbon frame?

There are some foams which don't need water to set. Also, I didn't think foam weighed a great deal. Not worried about warranty as the frame wasn't new to me. Main concern was how the foam might stick to the cable outers. Maybe I'll have a dry run on a piece of 38mm plastic waste pipe with a piece of...
