I like continental gator skins on my road bikes . No plans for tubeless .

I wonder what qualities you're looking for that Gatorskins don't offer?
I use them for my kind of touring (short trips mostly), in fact I just have them on all my bikes for simplicity's sake.

Re: Road marking
Yes it's just warning of a side road to the left ahead, in place of a standard sign, and is possibly more obvious if travelling faster than a ponderous cyclist.

Road marking
Is the meaning of this road marking obvious to everyone? I think I might be a bit slow on the uptake as it had me baffled for years, and I'm sure it wasn't in the HC when I was young.

Re: The staff of life - best served packaged?
There are few pleasures to equal stumbling across an independent baker selling fresh bread made properly from wholesome ingredients. Unfortunately it doesn't happen very often! Most bread in the supermarkets is total pap so I compromise with wholemeal loaves from our bread making machine.

Re: Obsolete Free Hub
Well it hasn't failed yet so presumably you still have a fully functioning back wheel, and can perhaps cross the bridge when you get to it! As the PP suggests, applying some new lubrication may well prolong its life. In any case it's likely to give you a bit of warning in the way of horrible noises before it fails.

I'd place any vents where they're well protected from rain, eg above the roof eaves

Re: Employer cuts D-lock
I hope the new shed is for staff bikesAnita Faul wrote: ↑11 Jan 2024, 11:02am I was signed off work. While I was away my bike was locked to one of the provided bike rails at work. Unbeknown to me they moved the rails to build a shed there. During that process they cut the lock. I have asked for reimbursement, but this has been ignored so far. I checked my emails to which I had access while I was off. There was no email about bikes needing to be moved from those rails nor anything about building work. So I did not ignore a request to move the bike. If a note was pinned on, they should have noted that employees currently not coming in also need to be notified in another way.
Should the employer reimburse the lock?

Re: Specialized Roubaix Pro 23/25 or 25/28?
I can't speak from experience of these tyres but if space is tight it would be best to get the 23/25, surely. 25/28 would be slightly wider than what you have now.

Gatorskins may not be cheap but I seem to get good mileage from them - if you do buy cheap tyres you might find yourself buying more of them.

I've known the OP's symptoms often to be the onset of an infection for me (eg a cold), which is obviously more likely in winter.

Re: Can you recommend a wheel builder Harrogate & environs?
Back to the OP - Jim in Menston has excellent credentials though I've not used him, and he may cost more than you're prepared to pay. It sounds like you need to respoke the wheel - why not have a go yourself.
