Where on the coach/bus is the bike stored when in transit.
Is there a luggage compartment under the bus to take the bike without dismantling?

I've often thought about bus out and bike back for a day ride.

Cycler.

I put the bike in the compartment underneath, but It has to be in a bag or else the driver has the right to refuse it.

Transporting a full sized bicycle on National Express

I commute to London weekly from Bristol and take my road bike with me, I started off with a fold up bike which I didnt get on with , which I sold and started to experiment with taking my trusty hack on the coach . N.E stipulate that a bike needs to be in a bag, but as I get off the coach and ride to my destination, I need a bag that will fold up and fit in a pannier, a lot of these bike bags Ive seen available dont really do this.
After thinking about it ,I went to B and Q and found a sand sack for £5 ish :

It fits the bike fine, since I have been commuting on the route for three months, none of the drivers have batted an eyelid.
The only problem is that the bag dosnt fold particularly small so I have to carry it about with me, but having the bike with me all the time is great, and very cost effective in London .

I am now on the search for a smaller bag option, and I know it sounds a bit crazy, but I reckon and old duvet cover might just do it, as the bag dosnt need to be strong , its more about containment.....if anyone can point me in the way of large sacks that fold up, then please do.

Happy New Year! D

Re: How to I repair my bent forks-advice sought?

Just so that you know,(sorry havnt logged on for ages) the forks were repaired in September by Argos in Bristol, cost me £30, I didnt however show them the frame, although it does seem to have got away unscathed , the bike is back to how it it used to be! Argos are brilliant!

Re: How to I repair my bent forks-advice sought?

I took my Forks to Bristol bike workshop who told me "dont ride the bike, it wont be safe, you need new forks"..............then took the bike to Argos frame rebuilders who said : £30 to mend them, no problem !

Re: How to I repair my bent forks-advice sought?

By the way, I have noticed that the bending/twisting/movement seems to have taken place on the crown, as one side aligns with the bearing cups and the other is slightly pushed back.

How to I repair my bent forks-advice sought?

Hi there, last week, after my panniers oddly decided to come off and go into my front wheel, I came off my bike, proper buttock over tit, landing on my chin, nose, hands and knees.....I picked myself up ,thought nothing of it ( well apart from the stitches and pain etc) until today when I realised the hack bike has a bent fork !

Details :

its a reynolds 531 st (steel)
one blade looks out of line with the other

is there anything I need to look at/check?

I am happy to fix my own bikes so any DIY tips would be great...or maybe a trip to bristol bike workshop?

If anyone can give me some useful tips that would be great.

Thanks!

Frame ID needed! : with EO and a small triangle on BB

Hi there, my friend has a road bike frame from the eighties.... he thinks it might be a reynolds and it has EO and a small triangle next to it on the bottom of the BB
Its a fast looking road bike, hardly any braze on fixings anywhere, and its lugged as well
....got any ideas on what that means and who might have built it?
It has been painted in lots of horrible colours there is no badge or any ID apart from the EO and triangle stamped into the BB

Any ideas appreciated!!

Im getting my aerospace 400 back on the road soon, its been in my bedroom for ages, it'll be mostly retro parts, mostly original, mine came with non death forks, and SR crankset with standard BB, weinmann 630 sidepull brakes, 27" rims, altus gearset, SR stem.....with a few news bits , got some imported red tires from the us, racing saddle new white bartape and colour coded cable outers, its going to look great, (but not retro) .
Itll be for sale when its done.......

Re: taking a blackberry/iphone

I took a BB on a four day tour in wales last year, at one point we had a broken chain incident and we would have been stuffed if i hadnt been able to find a shop and its number on my blackberry web feature, we also used the google maps app to help with directions.......and then there's the excellent camera....take a charger and adaptor you'll be fine .D

RIMS what would you do?

Hi there, I have a pair of wheels from a bike I recently bought.

They have Mavic GP4 rims which are a very popular/common tubeless type on specialized hubs .

Tubeless rims are not something which I desire on this machine, so I am wondering ho easy would it be to find a clincher rim to exactly replace the old tubeless rims and ie build a new set of wheels using the hubs and spokes.....the only difficulty I can envisage is finding an exact match for the GP4 rims .(?)

The spokes are stainless butted spokes, and the specialized hubs are silky smooth...and would hate to see them go to waste......

what would you do??

Thanks, Darcus
