Re: Why I like single touring

When I cycle alone, I yearn for company....When I cycle in company, I yearn for solitude.

Re: Tubus Tara Front Low Rider - suitable panniers?

Ortlieb front rollers for me too....The Ortlieb/ Tara combo is popular for good reason. Interchangable with the back rack for day rides on mine too.
I've balked at the price of Ortlieb too, but they really are worth it in the end if you prefer your stuff to stay dry on tour.

I'm in the west of Scotland, hence my bad weather reliability concerns.

Re: Hub Dynamo for winter commute.

....Absolutely agree pwa, I'm not looking to buy cheap crap, though I'm not stretching to a SON either. I'm looking at spa cycles looking like I'll be getting a ready built 36hole Sputnik rim with something in the middle.....the 'something' is what I'm interested in.

Hub Dynamo for winter commute.

Hi there, I'm looking to hear thoughts and experience on the reliability of shimano hubs dynamos through the murk of a Scottish winter. I've decided to bite the bullet this year and try a 20mile commute, to and from work, but the weather effects on my electrics concerns me regarding lights and dynam...

Re: Forth and Clyde and Union canals

I haven't been on the Union Canal, but I've done all of the F&C from Glasgow to the Falkirk wheel on a 700x32 tourer with no difficulty. Most of it is Tarred or hard packed Tar/gravel type mix. There are one or two sections that are more bare earth, but not many and they don't last too long. I s...

Re: Legally Can you Cycle on the A77?

Why anyone in their right mind would want to cycle on there is beyond me.....The same goes for the M8 where it does a similar thing by changing into the A8 between Langbank and Port Glasgow. I see cyclists on there regularly and think they must have a slate loose. I don't speak for anyone else, but ...

Re: Car Parking Ardrossan

I wouldn't leave my car parked anywhere on an Ardrossan street......use the harbour car-park. The prevailing wind is from the SW, so the general consensus is that the island should be tackled clockwise. Turn left out of the Port heading for Lamlash and Whiting Bay....This gets the strength sapping u...

Tubus Tara on Discs

Hi, can anyone tell me of a decent front lowrider rack for a 2014 Dawes Galaxy plus with disc brakes? My brother seen advice on a forum somewhere or other , that a tubus tara would fit....I'm a bit wary of him spending money on something that says 'not for disc brakes' on spa cycles site!! Thanks fo...

Decent quality ball-bearings?

Has anyone any pointers on where to find ball bearings of an appropriate grade for a tourer's wheels....ie, hard wearing. I see -plenty of bulk-buy options on Amazon, but none seem very clear or trustworthy regarding grade.

Re: Outer Hebrides, S. Uist, Eriskay, Barra

Leave your cars in Oban, the rise in traffic in the islands is bad enough since the introduction of the Road Equivalent Tarrif.

Should we just send our money over to 'island businesses' and not bother visiting?
