Re: STI Help....

Niggle, you're awakaning bad memorys for me, my bike as a youngster, it had been my grandfathers, had the cheese quadrant gear change, the peg was somewhat worn, several times as I was stugeling uphill it would slip, and I would crash down on the crossbar, then be in tears in the gutter, suprised I ...

Re: STI Help....

People always seem to favour bar ends over STIs, am I the only person who has had them jam? The first bike it happened on my then LBS managed to fix them, he is no longer there so I tried to get inside, I just wrecked it  Both times I could only get just the three central clicks. Re: is the reason my bike wont brake in the wet...

A while back I ran cheap brake blocks, (Trago Mills) on the rear, Kool Stops on the front, wore the rear rim out in half the mileage of the front, false economy  A plug for Martin at Tavistock Cycles, ace wheel builder :D

Re: Old magazines

As others have said, nice to know I'm not alone, and to get some hints on what to do with my 4ft stack of cycling mags. Can't bring myself to get rid of my old motorcycle mags, they go back to the 60s, built some shelves in the loft  Any one any idea what to do with 2 carrier bags stuffed ful...

Re: cannondale headshock suspension

Don't know about the head shock, but re. the tyre, diferent makes do vary the hieght slightly for a given supposed size, to check if the tyre is on correctly there is a line on the tyre which should follow the rim evenly on each side.

Re: New wheels

Hi John, I live in Torbay, South Devon, it's not particularly flat around here, the local mud is red clay, ( it don't half stain) a bit father away it's black, or white near china clay works, not very abrasive I guess. The tandem lived firstly in a very average garage, then in a nice dry newly built...

Re: New wheels

Thanks Brucey, yes I think you are right it was Fibrax that worked the best. After 12,000 we still hadn't worn through the anodising, I wonder how many miles the would have done. I've just learnt a lesson with "cheap" brake blocks, 3,000 miles on the rear my open pro was finished, the fron...

Re: Schwalbe CX Comp popped off

I had a pair of Panaracer Highroads that were very slack on 26" rims, after a couple of blow offs while inflaiting them I always checked the bead was properly seated, never a problem on the road. Cheers, Rob.

Re: New wheels

Excuse me hijacking the thread, Mavic mod 3 rims, the late Dave Bedwell rebuilt the wheels of my old motobecane tandem with these, my daughter and I rode it for 6 years, maybe 10-12,00 miles, still perfectly true, not much more than 12-13 stone the pair of us, Mafac cantilever on the front, Weinman ...

Re: Compact gearing - how does it work?

A tad confusing yes. In our household we have two bikes with compact doubles of the same 105 model. One bike has a long cage rear deralier whilst the other is a short cage - any idea why they would make or fit two versions? I expect the one with the long cage mech has a cassette with more and/or lar...
