Re: Mersey Tunnel

Actually, going by this (undated) article on the Halton Borough Council website, https://hbcnewsroom.co.uk/part-time-closures-of-silver-jubilee-bridge-footpathcycleway/, it would appear the bridge could officially be used by cyclists after 4pm on weekdays, although it should be open now at all times...

Re: Lejog routes past Manchester or Runcorn/Widnes
Runcorn bridge is closed to traffic until 2020(link)! There is a bus to take pedestrians & cyclists across but I've heard it isn't all that frequent. I don't know why...

Re: Not shortlisted due to lack of driving license?!

I win! Round 1 at least... The woman from HR I spoke to last week just got back to me to acknowledge her error and offer me an interview next Friday. So Avon and Somerset Police don't discriminate against cyclists. Good to know. Thanks again to everyone, especially thirdcrank, for giving me the conf...

Re: A place to record cyclists using trains

Good news: We might just have set a record for non-event-attending bikes on a train this month! It was the 1730 from Temple Meads to Paddington on 7th August. The main cycle carriage was overflowing as far I could see, so the train manager opened up the next van, the one on these types of trains tha...

Not shortlisted due to lack of driving license?!

Sorry if this complaint is not relevant and I am making a fuss over nothing but I thought if anyone would sympathise with me - and even help or advise me - it would be fellow CTC members, as it could, at a stretch, be considered discrimination against cyclists. (Someone from Citizens' Advice ...

Re: Cyclists revenge, good stories, thoughts etc.

So, a member of staff at the Met finally got back to me on Tuesday. However, she thought I was the witness and it turns out that as the witness Caroline spoke to the 999 operator on my mobile they thought my phone number was Caroline's. Despite two PCSOs and one police officer taking Caroline's deta...

Thanks for the replies. I did chase it up with Harrow police yesterday who just told me to attend my local station in Bristol. They took a report and said I should hear back from them by the end of the month. So I'm afraid it looks like my case is going to go the same way as EdFixed's, i.e. with jus...

I understand the desire for some form of revenge on dangerous drivers and, I must admit, have laughed at some of the incidents detailed here, especially Phil Lee’s story. I wish I could have done something like that when a similar thing happened to me once, but the culprits were on foot, while I was...

Thanks for the detailed response, Stonehead; it's certainly put my mind at ease :)

Although it was always rather unlikely that I would leave my bike at home as I hate the thought of having to go walk, wait, bus, walk, wait, train, wait, bus to get to work!

I will cycle all year round, almost regardless of the weather, but am thinking I may have to get the bus tomorrow as it is snowing here in Kettering (and probably will be in Leicester where I work - I go cycle, train, cycle). I can't remember ever cycling in the snow - or slush that it will probably...

Thank you all very much for your helpful replies. I'd planned my journey from Leicester to Bristol and from over the border to Swansea, but the Severn Bridge part of the ride was really troubling me, so it's a huge relief to have that sorted now, as I leave in less than 24 hours.

Thanks again!

Getting over the Severn Bridge

I want to go across from Bristol into South Wales and someone from Sustrans told me it is possible to go over the old Severn Bridge but can anyone on here tell me exactly which route I will need to take from Bristol to cross it?

That's all, thanks!
