I've mentioned this proverb before, in relation to Johnson.

'He who is born to be hanged will never be drowned.'

He may well get his comeuppance, but the gods may decide to leave him a little longer.

Sacrifice all your goats, people!

Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

The Lib Dems' leaflets have rather put me off, being unnecessarily aggressive and rather fantastical. 'Jo Swinson, Our Next Prime Minister'. Err, we will decide that. She probably doesn't remember David Steel's "Go back to your constituencies and prepare for government! ". The LibDems keep...

Re: Mail on Sunday made false claims about Labour's tax plans

People only buy the newspapers that reflect their own personal views. One cannot buy a "newspaper" which is independent of political bias. Political bias in editorial opinion is one thing. Printing demonstrably false reporting is quite another. Once more, we need to guard against the idea...

It would certainly damage Andrew's reputation.

Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

Where are you seeing these things?? You must spend a lot of your day looking for them! Isn't it odd that despite all the quotes/citations (from a myriad of sources) on this thread, I'm not seeing the output of these " troll farms "? https://twitter.com/marcowenjones/status/120414956908233...

Aside from any NHS issues, I'm bothered that the UK's most recent governing party is sustained by troll farms.

Famously, centre-right Merkel cared, and was heavily criticised for it.

Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

Not disagreeing about the impact, it's the protestations of a parent after the event that's rather nonplussing. They wouldn't be the first to have experienced the meat mincer of public exposure. One minute you are sharing a picture with a journalist. The next, you have sun reporters camping in the ...

Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

Would a labour politician have dropped everything and run to the hospital to sort it out? Or announced that staff should stop caring for everyone else until this is fixed? Would that be helpful? A better politician would have pretended to be concerned, and a better human would have been concerned. ...

Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

I noticed that the boy's mother was asking that her son didn't become a political football. The moment that photo was taken (by the family, presumably, given the angle) and posted, what did she think might happen? True, but what's the answer? The public will not respond to stats. The figures for pe...

Re: Boris Johnson: Why is a proven liar in power?

The number of tweets that start along the lines of "<insert random name> A good friend of mine is a <insert senior job title> at Leeds hospital. The boy shown on the floor" etc etc is pretty astounding. The Conservative Party's closeness to Putin isn't just about money, it's about propaga...

How did he get where he is? The support of powerful voices. In his campaign for mayor he had the unwavering support of the Evening Standard (edited by Veronica Wadley, who later worked for Johnson). He's had the support of Murdoch, the Barclay twins, Lebedev and the Rothermeres; Dacre, Wadley, Wade...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

US deals aren't the personal property of the President. He has to get any deal approved, so his views of Johnson and the EU will be largely irrelevant. Even if he wanted to do the UK a favour, he may not be able to.

Re: ** The General Election Thread **

As always the upper part of the class war divide will shed what few pretend principles they have and do anything to deny an even vaguely left wing government. All over bar the counting. Extreme right wing will triumph on the back of brexit. If you are poor, disabled or have any belief in equality b...
