Re: Alternative road route from Roscoff to Carhaix-Plouger

[quote="quilkin"]Yes, D769 is great. Nice quiet but wide road, gently climbing up towards Heulgoat. Divert to the D14 at Berrien to go to Heulgoat (nice little town, good cafes for lunch). Then down along the river to join the D769 again. Done it several times.
I've also done the D9 / D54 way but it wasn't as interesting. Still quiet roads though.[/
This is the route a friend and I used when cycling from Morlaix to Carhaix-Plouger. I think it used to be the main road but was superseded by a new road so is little used. By the way, there's a bar in Carhaix run by an expat Cornishman that makes great pasties

If you are happy with your hybrid, you could try these http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/jtek-superli ... prod36472/ I've never used them so no idea if the're any good but may be a cheap option to see how you get on with drops

Re: How can people chuck £800 away?

I was going to sell my Raleigh Randonneur (Rosie) to my brother. My daughter said "You can't sell Rosie, you've had her as long as you've had me" 22 years

Swallow sorry to read that and your right in keeping them as who knows whether your health may hopefully improve and if it doesn't then looking at those bikes I am sure will remind you of those good times you had riding them.
I one worked with a young fella that use to ride a Yamaha R1 motorcycle until he was diagnosed with MS and was wheel chair bound but he was determined that he would never sell it as it held so many good memories for him.

Thank you hondated

This is all transference(by me!)as my back isn't quite right(after back strengthening exercises went wrong!),and cos it's winter and I'm a bit fed up. Swallow,I hope you get there. Sunshine and Spring on its way always helps me. Steady is the best advice.

Thanks tyreon, weakness in the legs is the biggest problem at the moment so plenty of gym work and strengthening exercises. First thing I did after the op last November was to enter our Club Audax the following April, thinking I'd be sorted by then but it didn't happen. Fingers crossed for the coming year

What? So you bought the Dawes knowing that you had the ailments mentioned above and that you had 3 other bikes that weren't being ridden?

Is this true, or am I missing something?

Thought the op was going to sort out the back problem, sort of an incentive to get back on the bike and it was a good deal. The other ailments are largely controlled by medication. I was riding Sportives and Audax events. Still hoping

Re: Statins - side effects

I have many health problems including Psoriatic Arthritis, Spinal Stenosis and Type Two Diabetes. Following some chest pains I was sent for a MIBI Scan, this measures how well the heart is supplied with blood. As a result I have a letter from the hospital saying the results were very good and the likely hood of my having heart or arterial problems in the future is remote yet my GP still has me on statins. I take so much medication with so many side effects that I have decided to drop the statins

Highway obstruction. Report it to the police.

Last time I phoned the police on the non emergency number, I was on hold for thirty five minutes. No wonder reported crime is going down

Lidl had this in one of their bike sales just over a year ago. If I remember correctly it was slightly cheaper (the 5%?) and has served me well.

I have the Lidl one not the best but well worth the money

Don't want to alarm you but B12 injections are relatively painful as the stuff is fairly thick and has to go in slowly. I jest slightly but at least there should be no after effects and it dies down after a few minutes.

I had the first one on Friday, the Doctor asked the student that was with him to do it, no problem at all, 'tho I think I've developed quite a high pain threshold.

Slowly improving I think but going to see my consultant next week. Not more drugs I hope.

Like you, I''m on a load of drugs, in my case for Psoriatic arthritis and spinal stenosis. I was on Methotrexate, then Humira now inject myself once a month with a drug called Simponi (Golimumab) Not much fun
Do you have bar end shifters or STIs on your tourer. I found STIs easier to use
