Many thanks indeed for the links and pointers much appreciated.
My final question is regarding the train home. If I book a ticket can I get on with my bike?

Glasgow to Carlisle
A day ride I've wanted to do for many years.
Just wanted to consult the hive for your input.
I'm in Glasgow, I'd like to ride to Carlisle and get the train home. I just wondered if anyone had done this in reverse as part of a lejog or indeed jogle.
Looking at the map It looks like I want the B7076 which mirrors the M74.
Am I correct?

Enjoy yourself and eat what you want, when you want.
I could not eat some of the stuff listed by some others, yuk!

All except the drink, cooked al a carte Trangia with Methylated Spirits as a Trangia should be (not Gas!)
all fine stuff apart from the budweiser.
And Southern Comfort.
A lowland single malt and an IPA would be my choice.
That's for another thread.

Simon,
Might you be persuaded to sell your food on the road book?

Touring food
As soon as wee Jimmy Krankie says I'm free to roam and she opens the campsites I'd like to go round the NC500.
I have my gas powered trangia and I'm a dab hand and boil in the bag rice but I hoped that you fine experienced folk might impart some food tips.
What are your staples?
What do you take foodwise?
What do you cook?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: A curious Zefal HPX issue
Brucey called it.
It was the wee red ball jammed in place.
Visible after taking the top section apart. A quick poke with a sharp tool forced it back and then copious amounts of silicone spray.
Quick test confirms that was the problem.
Many thanks.

Re: A curious Zefal HPX issue
Should have stated, presta.
Now checked on various tubes all with the same effect. Sounds like this one way check valve may be the culprit.
Will disect and report back tomorrow.
Thanks for the pointers!
I'm scunnered but determined to resolve.

A curious Zefal HPX issue
I have a seldom used, in fact I think I've pumped up three tyres with it Zefal HPX.
It let me down, no pun intended in a non spectacular way on a towpath in the middle of nowhere. I had retrieved it from its perch in my frame confident that it would get me up and running in jig time compared to those wee mini pumps.
Indeed I had somewhat sanctimonously used it on a chums bike the previous day with no issues.
Not on this day though everything started ok then any pressure that I generated was being forced back into the pump with the result, the handle fully extended and any air I had managed to inflate into the tube mysteriously disappeared.
A kindly passing cyclist saved my blushes with a minipump.
It was too cold and wet to investigate at the time but yet another puncture a couple of days later found me on the same position.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I've changed the title accordingly. I do know my East from West I had posted this after a couple of Bowmore's
Thanks alot for all the input. I will try to source the C2C guide quoted above.
I understand there may be some issues getting bikes on the train from Carlisle to Whitehaven right enough.

Re: Coast to Coast (East to West)
Apologies Whitehaven to Newcastle was the original plan although I'm happy to deviate from that. That was the reason for the post really.
I was looking for suggestions and tips on the route above.

Did a search but no joy. Was just looking for pointers/advice regarding this route. Planning on traveling from Glasgow by train then home.
As I say just garnering opinions/tips.
