Re: Funding

Another way to look at this is, dont try to start from nothing and build, talk to an existing local Taxi/Delivery company and see if they would be interested in throwing some work your way to get you started .. it will cost them nothing and the novelty value of having a bicycle taxi/delivery vehicle...

I'm not sure about the rims but we have plenty of their rice pudding down here in Devon

I suppose it depends what you're hoping it will do.
I'm quite pleased with my £50 DIY one.

So what part of "best front light for £25" did'nt you understand ?

Re: 2 day rides in Devon

The Blackdown Hills in East Devon are (by Devon standards) surprisingly good cycling country. Paradoxically, they have some of the flattest and straightest roads in the county. That's because the area is, in effect, a dissected plateau, and once you've gained the initial height you're on long, flat...

I've just given Mrs Smudge a nudge to say that the 20% discount runs out at midnight tonight for the DVD and all orders for christmas have to be in by tuesday ... i think my copy is already here though :)

Re: Aldi Cycling event

Plenty of kit in the Exeter store this morning .. i got the Hi-Viz rain jacket - winter trousers - couple of pairs of socks and the micro fibre towels .. but when i got home and emptied my bag of goodies i'd bought the pink and grey shirt and softshell jacket instead of the red Doh .. im blaming Ald...

Re: Help me decide on kit before I buy

Dont get to hung up on buying expensive kit .. other people will always enjoy trying to spend your money for you and telling you that you have to have the latest expensive brand name kit or you will have a terrible time touring ... just make do with what you have and compromise with bin liners in pa...

Re: DAWES Karakum, NEWBIE

I have limited money and was thinking of buying a DAWES Karakum (what do you think) The Karakum is a lovely bike .. i used to ride a Ridgeback Panorama which was to big for me and i did'nt get on with drop handlebars and when i saw a secondhand Karakum come up for sale on here i bought it .. it was...

You are surrounded by fantastic wild camping here in Devon ... why would you consider paying £20 per night ?

you can pop into a leisure center and get a free shower

Re: Buying a budget touring bike

As a suggestion i'd try a few different bikes and look to get a good second hand one. I've just bought a Dawes Kara Kum on Ebay for £155. It's 10 years old but has been looked after. Seems to have had a new chain recently and came complete with original front and rear racks, pump and set of Cateye ...

Re: Advice on Dawes Ultra Galaxy

I dont agree with Graham about the parts being different from specification making the bike worth less. The pictures show that your brother in law upgraded many parts with expensive quality equipment. A discerning eye will look at those photographs and see a very attractive bike which he put a lot ...

Re: Revolution Country Traveller

I've never heard anything bad said about the Revolution branded bikes and im sure if you do a search you'l find some happy owners

if you are considering going down the seconhand route as well as the cheaper new bikes then i'l have a 60cm Ridgeback Panorama up for grabs next month
