Re: hip operation help

Many thanks for these comments - just had news of my x-ray and I may be heading same way. 1 of our local surgeons is a cyclist so may go and see him. Falls obviously an issue anyway - a check on bone strength might be useful ? I have found SPD pedals very helpful as the other leg can take more of the strain. I have often been disappointed by the ignorance of medics on what sporting activities involve - book learning has its limitations. Also tendency of medics to play it on the safe side , rather than looking to quality of life. As a medic (now retd) I felt I should more than a bit about sporting activities - even fielding some very relevant but tricky questions on archery.

Cleats

Relatively new to cleats but very impressed by my multi-release SPD - SH56. Recently had to buy some new shoes and find later the cleats sold with these were SH 51. Wen I telephoned I was told these much the same - the others releasing easily because old and the new ones would multi-release once used a few times. Is this true or is it poor advice ? I am suspicious as the chap in the shop has never seen my old shoes and cleats so how would he know? I had worn out my shoes after number of years with toe straps and the cleats used for less than 150 miles!
