Hi All,
I'm planning on a coast to coast next June, a load of my friends want to do it too so I need to be super organised! As we'll stay in a Travelodge on the Friday night before, and the Saturday night once we're done, I really want to get the basics sorted by the end of October so that I can book the rooms etc.
Here is the proposed route taking in a bit of the TdF route from York to Skipton:
Scarborough - York - Harrogate - Skipton - Preston - Lytham St Annes
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2965508
People will be on a mixture of Road bikes, Tourers and Mountain Bikes (with road tyres). I'm going to organise it so that we only travel in groups of 3 or 4 so we don't block the traffic too much, and that we stop a few times so that everyone can socialise a bit.
This is the basic schedule:
Meet at Marine Drive, Scarborough to watch the sun rise then set off in groups of 3 or 4 leaving on a staggered start basis.
The daylight lasts 17 hours and trip is 133 miles so this is NOT a race… We only need to achieve an average speed of 8mph.
The stops I am suggesting are:
1. On 42 miles – York Tesco Extra, York YO30 4XZ
2. On 80 miles at Skipton Morrisons, Skipton BD23 1RT
3. On 110 miles at Blackburn Boddington Arms - Fayre & Square, Blackburn BB2 7LE
The end will be at North Promenade, Lytham St Annes where everyone will meet up to watch the sun set.
This site was invaluable when I organised a JOGLE in 2011 and a Great Yarmouth to Bicester in 2013. Any advise with be gratefully received, be it route, stops, or whatever.
Many thanks in advance,
Nathan

Re: I don't care about "for or against"
I seriously can't believe this thread has been dug up:
By the way, I still wear a helmet... and I still DON'T want to be told that I have too.

Re: Great Yarmouth to Bicester
It's a charity ride for a young lad at a local school in Bicester who has Steven Johnson Syndrome. It really is horrible... Don't google it unless you are prepared to see something unpleasant.
Anyway, the school is called "Bure Park", so after a bit of thought and research, I found "Bure Park" in Great Yarmouth (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Bure+P ... 16&iwloc=A) and thought it would be good to do a "Bure Park to Bure Park for Harvey".
So Great Yarmouth it is...
Thanks for the advice, the ride will be on 4th and 5th May so I'll be tweaking the route for a few months yet!

Re: Great Yarmouth to Bicester
Thanks mg2012,
I'll have a look at that route and make some tweaks to (or completely redo) day 1.
Regarding day 2, I've made the changes that mcr suggested and I'm pretty happy with it (I'll still listen to advice on it!)... I actually did this route two years ago returning from an Oxford to Cambridge charity ride for The British Heart Foundation. I did Bicester to Oxford and then Oxford to Cambridge (102 miles), stayed over night and returned to Bicester the next day.
Thanks all, any more suggestions?

Great Yarmouth to Bicester
Hi,
Can anyone see any glaringly stupid mistakes with these routes:
Day one
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1902200
Day two
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1902202
All on road bikes carrying minimal gear, over a weekend in May.
Any suggestions or alternatives gratefully received.
Regards,
Nathan

Re: UPDATE - Official CTC LEJoG Tours in July and Sept
Mick F, this isn't aimed at you, me or indeed most of the posters on here. Most of us enjoy the planning, the booking, finding the value for money. However, how many visitors to this site just come for advice and never post? The "I want to do it but don't know where to start" types are exactly the sort of person this is aimed at. New cyclists with new bikes, a new found enjoyment in cycling, and new goals in life.
I think if you have the money, and want to do something iconic, pay and go. Any cycling should be encouraged.

I've found out that this could be a "Sunbeam Comanche".
Where do I go to find out more? Any suggestions welcome.

Raleigh Comanche
Hi,
I've just got hold of a Raleigh Comanche but I can't find any info about it at all. I've seen one photo-copied page of an old brochure that I can't read, but that's it!
Does anyone have any info on the year/numbers etc?
Thanks in advance,
Nathan
MODS: Sorry if this is the wrong place to post... feel free to move it.

This was my first day (http://www.everytrail.com/fullscreen.ph ... id=1020886). I went this route because I wanted to take in Duncanbys Head (Most NE mainland point) and Dunnet Head (North).
It started as a nice day but started raining after an hour, and only stopped when we went through the clouds following the A9 just after Achavanich. We stopped in Dunbeath at the Inver Caravan Park B&B and ate at The Bay Owl Restaurant… Don’t be fooled, it looks like a truck-stop but is a fantastic place to eat and have a beer or two (we had several).
On the second day we went from Dunbeath to Inverness (http://www.everytrail.com/fullscreen.ph ... id=1002836)

Re: Travelodge...
During my JOGLE last June/July we stayed in 4 Travelodges on route (Inverness, Dumbarton, Hereford and Oakhampton) and we asked on arrival about bikes in the rooms. On all four occasions there wasn't an issue and a one even offered the boiler room to hang our soaking wet clothing to dry as it has pelted down for the whole day.
They were very understanding and I got the impression that it happens all the time.
Good luck.

Re: LEJOG start
Me either, although mine was a JOGLE in June/July 2011.caledonian1 wrote:Never bothered with any register....to be honest never even knew about it...not signing it does not mean I didnt complete my LEJOG
By the way, if you are cycling from LE to the B&B and then continuing from there, it's not "the night BEFORE you start" your LEJOG... IT IS THE NIGHT YOU START YOUR LEJOG!!! It's just that your first leg is a short one. Many people who have done JOGLE have stayed in Wick and their fist leg has been to get off the train and cycle to JoG and back to Wick to the B&B.
