Re: White Lightning vs Progold ProLink

Mick, I use Prolink Pro Gold for more than a year now, very happy with it. There is one thing about it though, it doesn't only lubricate, it removes dirt. I've cleaned a chain with degreaser and everything using your method, it's the only way i clean it, even though i do it twice a year only, even t...

Re: A retrograde step?

<Kellys...> I first heard of these some years ago in a piece by CJ in the CTC mag. I've never seen any in the flesh, although I've obviously seen pics. On that basis, I cannot speak from experience, but if these are so good, I wonder why they are apparently no longer distributed in the UK. :?: I wo...

Re: A retrograde step?

Now all you have to do is to mount the DT levers on some Kelly TakeOff levers and you're set for life, you won't want to use any other shifters :)

Tektro RL520 Drop Bar Brake Levers Shimano Dura Ace down tube shifters Kelly Take-offs With the possiblility of deciding on the brakes at a later stage ? Re: Recommend me a strong spoke key please!

I use a Pedros Pro spoke key.
It's true that i'm not using it daily, but it's solid.

Re: The one bike...

+ 1 to Kelly Take offs, i've got them on my Surly LHT combined with Shimano Dura Ace down tube shifters, i wouldn't change them for anything. This sounds a bit intriguing, and a bit like belts&braces (in a positive way). Looking forward to the pictures. :) I think Aek means he has the D/ace D/T...

Re: The one bike...

......Disc brakes usually suck because they often make the fitting of proper mudguards with stays not possible. Why can't you fit mudguards on a bike with disc brakes? When I had my Mercian frame refurbished a few years ago, I seriously considered disc brakes as an option. I could see no reason tha...

Shifting is extremely accurate, i just can't see anything that can go wrong with this system! I've got the 48cm Nitto noodle bars as i'm a big guy with wide s...

Re: surly/hewitt/other? - your experiences

Yup, I was looking at the Salsa Vaya option as well a while ago, but it just doesn't look right and i don't like sloping tube designs. That's why i've been waiting for the Disc LHT. By the way, Salsa, Surly and Civia are the same company, just different brands and different business units. They each...

Re: How many of your gears do you actually use regularly?

I have a triple chainset and a 9 speed rear cassette. i Don't like wide chain angles so i use about 12 gears in total. 5 gears in the Large chainring, 5 in the middle and 2 in the granny. My chainline is set in such a way so that my large chainring can use use the the middle of the cassette with a s...

Re: How often do you actually get a puncture?

I've only got 2 punctures since i started cycling again 2 years ago.
One was because the rim tape was not installed properly and one of the spokes punched a little hole in the inner tube.
The second puncture was on my MTB riding after a hedge cutter has done it's job. Not a very good idea.

Re: surly/hewitt/other? - your experiences

I've got a 56cm Surly LHT 700c custom built from frame up. I've just done 126 miles on it this week-end (including the Palace to Palace event) and all i can say is, What a joy to ride this bike! There's nothing to complain about with it except that i'm an adept of disc brakes and i look forward for ...
