Re: 42 points & still driving!

Are there not systems available yet that can limit a cars speed based on GPS and mapping data? If it's not there yet it can't be far off - I've used GPS systems which tell me when I've entered temporary speed restrictions due to road works, let alone fixed limits. As and when - 12 or more points it ...

Re: Shimergo still viable?

I recently (as in last week) did this. I went for Veloce 2014 as I think the 2015 version is double (4 rather than 6 clicks?) only, with hubbub routing to an XT shadow 9 speed rear dérailleur. Front changer is an old Shimano 600 Arabesque. The Athena (11 speed) seems to come with a triple option sti...

Re: Sat nav on android.

OsmAnd wouldn't work on my admittedly quite old HTC smartphone. After some searching I found out that older version of Android limited the available memory for applications to 16 meg - OsmAnd is too memory hungry and will crash with out of memory errors (exactly what I was getting). It doesn't work ...

Re: Legality of 'left only' lane markings

There should only be two lanes. The layout positively encourages drivers to end up in the wrong lane, or merge with traffic into the middle lane. As far right in the left hand lane as possible while still discouraging undertaking for me. Some bozo will still try and overtake you and turn left though...

Re: How thin is too thin?

I lost a fair amount of weight a couple of years ago. I didn't have any target weight in mind, I just kept on going until as with your younger self I kind of bottomed out and couldn't lose any more. I don't know if that's the same for everyone or you can (or should) continue to do this at any age.. ...

Re: excessive weight loss

I don't think the weight change is that excessive, it's just a few percent of body weight. I used to weigh about the same any my weight would fluctuate quite a bit day to day.
2 bottles (2l?) of water doesn't seem much to drink, I'd drink more than that in 6hrs without the cycling.

Re: Cassette gear spacing options

50 - 11 is a pretty big gear, 120 gear inches or there about on 700c. I doubt I'd ever use a gear that large, but others may differ.

Re: A bit of a death wish?

I came across my first velomobile (in the UK) at the weekend as well, just north of Maidstone on the A229, a proper dual carriageway funnily enough only about a mile from redfacedbaldfatman’s "dual" example. It wasn't in a place I’d like to be, stuck at the end of a slipway, and I must say...

Re: Got hit on the commute, driver drove off but then got st

This is entirely true. We learnt about it in GCSE biology. The "blind spots" you are supposed to worry about when learning to drive aren't just because of the shape of the windows and mirrors, there are certain angles to your eye that objects can hide in and not be seen. However, moving y...

I don't know for sure, but I would have thought a charge for bags would have to go through the meter.
Sounds like the cabbie was trying to force you to pay an undeclared "tip".

Re: 'car-doored' in cycle lane?

Can't agree with the majority view that the passenger takes the majority of the blame (maybe ultimately the poor cycle facilities). It's not the passengers job to be an expert in the minutae of the road system. Unless the driver gives a warning, "I'll have to drop you off on to the road here, s...

If it helps I paid a little more than that (£450) for an S3, in good overall condition about a year ago.

Re: Maxed out rear derailler....

I've just been looking for an 8 speed Shimano cassettes and couldn't find the range I wanted (13-30+). Rose.de have a good choice of 7 speed cassettes, I ended up buying a 7 and an 8 to make up what I wanted (all for around £20 from Rose + postage).

Re: Shimano nexus 3

On my nexus 7 hub geared/nexave braked bike I don't bother removing the wheel to fix a flat (or I didn't, haven't had a flat for a couple of years since sticking Marathon plus tyres on). It's obvioulsy a bit more of a hassle getting the tyre on and off, but less than removing the gubbins with the br...

Re: cycling from Budapest to Krakow

I drove this route with some friends a few years ago. Slovakia was kind of fun scary. When over-taking the drivers liked to see the whites of the eyes of the oncoming driver before pulling back in. And did they like over-taking, anywhere at any time. Obviousy we took the more major roads, but I'd st...
