Re: Bedford turbo roundabout - construction commencing July?

I didn't think you could cycle mover a Zebra Crossing. You can cycle over Toucan crossings as these are light controlled.

Re: Pressure-gauge calibration

Some people have a lot of time on their hands to spend this much time on trying to confirm the accuracy of basic pressure gauges when it isn't necessary.
I can understand in a technical situation which I have to do working in university civil engineering labs and need accredited apparatus but for my cycling as long as I pump my tyres up to the same reading on the gauge every time and they stay pumped up what does it matter in the general cycling world that the majority of us live in.
5, 10 psi is not going to affect me one way or another.

When I used to track race I did have calibrated gauges but that was a different situation.

Re: Pressure-gauge calibration

That's a pretty fair amount of posts just to do with the accuracy of cycle tyre pressure gauges. I now know why I love reading some of the topics.
Does it really matter though for the general cyclist.
I know how important it is in an elite cyclists sphere but not for the general guy surely.

Re: Cyclists invisible without reflective clothing, evidence

I don't see any cars with hi viz on them. So why should cyclists have to wear hi viz. That obviously is assuming that they have effective lights fitted when being used at night.

Re: New leather saddle

What you need to do is get a bucket of boiling water and a large stone, soak the saddle in the water for a few hours and then beat 7 bells out of it with the stone.
You then fasten the stone to your seat pin and use that as your saddle, it is just a soft as the saddle  :D

(As others have said though the saddle doesn't really get any softer but is just shaped to you and keeps that shape)

Re: Ten Miles a Day

Most of my mileage this month has been on my i flow. Riding in the Dordogne and the Black Forest, I have clocked up 21 days and done 546 miles. I have been out on the road on 4 Saturdays and done just over 30 miles each time.

The i flow is a lot more interesting to use than my old turbo and the time doesn't slow down like it seems to on a turbo.

Re: Ten Miles a Day

I've been clocking up the miles on my tacx i flow during the dark nights. I've averaged just over 25 miles a day, 5 days a week riding in the Dordogne, Black Forest and even on the track.

It's not as good as actually being out on the bike but it keeps the legs turning and is more interesting than just a turbo or rollers.

Re: Red Lights - Pushing a Cycle and the Law

Did I say anything about not obeying speed limits, No I don't think so. I said that as a pedestrian but pushing my bike does not mean that I cannot pass the red light.

I did read your OP so are you saying that people pushing pushchairs, shopping trolleys, wheelbarrows have to stop.

[color=#00BFFF][color=#00FFFF][color=#00FFFF]To me, if I am driving my car in a 30mph zone, why should I feel the need to obey the speed limit? Simple answer is because if I don't and I get caught, I will be punished. I wish to avoid that scenario, so I try to obaey the prevailing regulations.

Re: Red Lights - Pushing a Cycle and the Law

To me if I am on the pavement pushing my bike then why should I feel the need to stop. I am a pedestrian, what red lights are on pavements, I don't know of any where I live but maybe there are some, but does that mean that people who not not pushing anything have to stop as well?

Is there really a point to this debate.

Re: Stupidly bright front lights.

It's not the lights that are the problem but how they are used. I have a bigger problem with the useless little yellow led front lights that so many seem to use. They are totally lost in even the darkest roads and among other vehicles. The bright ones are easily seen and make the cyclist so much more noticeable.

Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)

I got my new light ok but it is just annoying that somone can be like that towards customers as though the fact that the reason he sells stuff at the price he does justifies him not applying the sale of goods act and that he is perfectly entitled to do so.
I will still buy stuff from there.

Re: Care to guess who wrote this.....

I have tried ctc group rides and by those experiences I have found them to be so boring that I have nearly fell asleep as the pace was so slow and distances short between cafe stops.
I acknowledge all cyclists i see whether in lycra like myself and the responses or lack of are equally spread among all types.
On my club runs we acknowledge all cyclists and if we don't get a response then so be it but generally we do get a response and as I previously said it is evenly spread among all types of cyclist.

Re: Has anybody here personally repair his/her bike?

I replaced the top tube on my bike after it had cracked next to the gear lever bosses, 531 tubing on a lugged frame. I tinker with wheels but tend to get fed up and then get my work colleague to do them. I can't remember the last time I took my bike into a shop.

Spa Cycles

I returned a B & M ixon IQ front light back to them in September this year, it was less than 12 months old.
I have spoken to them a few times and the person I spoke to then was very helpful and informed me that the lamp had been sent to their supplier in Germany.

I accepted this even though my contract was with Spa as the supplier.

However I thought today that I had waited long enough, had been patient and telephoned them to ask what was happening. The person I spoke to today was very abrupt when I said that as my contract was with them as the supplier they should sort it out. He then started going on about them selling them at a disounted price and that is how they dealt with warranty items, and i had to take it or leave it and did i just call to have an argument.
I then said that if that was how it was going to be then i would contact trading standards and see what my legal position was. He was in no way prepared to listen to me.

Within 5 minutes he rang me back and said that the light had just been received but in view of my attitude he would rather that I didn't deal with them anymore, whereupon he just put the phone down.

I have had good dealings wth them before but it only needs something to undo all the good work.
