Re: Cycle tour in August

Thanks so much for your tips... Ireland is def a good idea and easy to take my own bike on the ferry. I'm also tempted by Germany as I speak German and love the country. I'm going to look into all these ideas and get my plan together. Thanks for helping me out.

Cycle tour in August

Hi,
I'm just canvassing for some ideas for a cycle tour in Europe this summer. Last year I went to Ecuador for my first cycling trip and loved it although I think it was pretty hilly and the roads were sometimes bad. I learned a fair bit from this about what to take, distances that I could cover etc, over there I just hired a bike but I think I might like to take my own as I'm closer to home. I only have two weeks holiday this summer so thought somewhere nearer might make more sense (and perhaps not quite as hilly!). Are there any must-see parts of Europe? I thought perhaps something in the Baltics, or northern Sweden / Norway / Finland. I love beautiful nature, less keen on cities, love lakes and mountains but as I'll have the panniers maybe the Alps are a bit too much climbing. But these are just vague ideas; maybe not southern Europe as I'll melt in the heat. I might try and find some cycle buddies too to do the trip with so if you're interested in taking part also I'd be happy to hear from you. Last year we had a nice little group of a me and a Scottish girl and a Czech guy from the internet! Worked really well.

Cycling partner(s) wanted for Ecuador trip

Hi,
I'm looking for travel companion(s) to cycle with in Ecuador. I've got my flights for a two week(ish) trip in September (dates set 22ndSet-6th Oct)and this is a long shot but I thought I'd see if I found any like-minded people who fancied an adventure. It's all still to be planned (flexible) but I am planning on doing about 30/40miles a day and using a mountain bike (hired there; I've found a good place that does decent bikes) to see the Andes and also rain-forest region, maybe transporting the bike on bus-top some of the way (maybe some of the up-hill). I'm planning to do it fairly budget; staying in simple guest houses, carrying what I need on the panniers, but not just cycling, also seeing some of the country. My ticket was £500 approx return from Heathrow. I budget about another £300-£500 for the rest of the trip depending on what we see / where we go.
A bit about me; I'm 31, female, cycle commute in London and do some weekend rides of about 40-90 miles. If you are interested then we'd need to see if we get on / have the same idea of a trip / timings work etc. I'd certainly like to do some practice rides here over the summer and would like to plan this with you. I'm in touch with one other person who is now also coming .. we think a group of 3 or 4 of us would be great... but then also we'd all need to get on well / have the same ideas etc.
I've traveled before in Guatemala and also Asia and so I have some experience but I haven't done it by bike before.

Anyway, get in touch if you are interested. There are companies who organise these things in Equador, but I'd much prefer to do it without if possible as I think it'd be more fun, more flexible and much cheaper.
ps.. if anyone has any gems of advice to share that wold be brilliant too.
