Cycling Over the Severn Bridge with Kids...

Likely to be returning to my native Bris in early October for a weekend and reckon it might be fun cycling to Wales with the nippers... Parking at Aust services and then nipping over the bridge being the general plan. Have heard that the northerly path is the better one - on arrival is there a backr...

Re: Excellent Calais Bike Store

Rest of the trip was great; no rain to worry us.

Pretty strong winds and some iffy road surfaces particularly in the Pas de Calais but a great trip.

Cheers

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Back from Paris and the GPXX solution was a total success. No issues with battery life and pretty good directions. The purple path left the road network a couple of time and I got lost couple of time but recovered soon enough. Having the map re-orientate to show where you're going is fine while you'...

Excellent Calais Bike Store

Folks, Back yesterday from a 3 day London to Paris ride with a couple of mates. Day 1 ended with a bit of drama as one of the party managed to drop his rear wheel into a crack on the ramp exiting the ferry... :( After some comedy waggling the wheel came out and we made it the couple of miles to our ...

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Used GPXX for a run to Dover the other day which worked pretty well on the turn by turn element...

Bizarrely the Elevation Gain calculation stopped at c. 1,200 feet (in the day we did nearer 4,000 feet)...

Is this a known fault? Will clear all my history out in case this has been a factor.

Re: Cycling into Dover

I'm afraid you're not going to avoid lorries in Dover especially on the A20. Once you reach the traffic lights at the Woolcomber Street / A20 junction you have the option of riding the short distance to the Eastern Docks on the A20 or by riding on the pavement, as most people do. There is a designa...

Re: Cycling into Dover

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...

Have my route into Dover planned but from the junction of the A256 (Woolcomber Street) and the A20 (Townwall Street) is there a cycle route into the Port of Dover?

Keen to avoid HGVs if possible... :)

Thanks

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Interestingly trying to produce a GPXX file from BikeHike resulted in being offered only a GPX extension.

Hoping this is due to Windows XP on work machine.

Vista at home so will try again there! :)

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Thanks again to you both.

You really have been incredibly helpful... :)

Will try the GPXX option and scroll through the route in right zoom.

Wierd about the unit not recording altitude gain when on course view. Is that expected behaviour?

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Good point with the back light will check... I'm really trying to get my head around how I can best work with the device before a ride to Paris in August. Getting lost beacuse the battery has died on familiar ground is one thing in the middle of nowhere in Northern France another! (Will have map bac...

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Some feed back on this TCX malarky... Used it for my 115 round trip to Brighton and have to say I hated it... :( Firstly it seemed that if I scrolled to my preferred screen view (with the 7 data fields I want to reference when I'm riding) it did not beep for coursepoints or bring the map to the fron...

Re: Garmin Edge 705 route problem

Sorry one final question... In BRT the Course point instructions are pretty clear e.g. "Turn right onto Church Lane" (and where unclear I've amended) Will these comments appear when I'm on the road? Just fear that downloading to PC and then uploading to Bike Hike (OS mapping down at...
