Re: shropshire union canal - crossing the mersey.

I think mersetravel now have a "Walrus Card" that you load with a saveaway ticket that can be used on the ferry and not incur the high 'tourist fares of the ferries.

The Saveaway can be used on Trains buses and ferries for use after 0930 hrs

+1

The box they come in should suffice - perhaps wrapped in a plastic bag -JIC - Works for me. :)

Re: parking in Oban

Just back - I would recommend the road the Seafood Temple is on - looked fine to me and fairly quiet. Just follow signs for ferry and go past the turn, follow the road and parking is on the right - you can't miss it.

Bad news is the Midges are out I'm afraid.

Re: Sizing - Sulsa Vaya 3 ??

Thanks for the replies - my measurement of the Hewitt top tube is 580mm

so would only (perhaps) need a 10mm longer stem ?

Re: Putting Road tyres on a 26" wheel ?

I may be getting a Surly Disc Trucker and was thinking of putting a slicker set of tyres on it - but I may wait and see how I get on with it first.

Thanks everyone - as usual a wonderful response

Thanks again

Re: Putting Road tyres on a 26" wheel ?

Oh - having read that a 1.75 and a 1 and 3/4 were different cycle tyre sizes I thought it was more complicated.

Thanks for such a speedy response

Cheers

Putting Road tyres on a 26" wheel ?

Hoping someone could educate me (I've looked on Seldon Brown's site) But I am still unsure. I want to put a 'fast' slim tyre on a 26" wheel - but I'm a bit unsure what a 1.25, 1.5 or 1.75 tyre equates to in terms of how wide they are when compared to say the 700 X 37 on my Hewitt. If I am not m...

Re: Cheap rail travel tricks

I can only add that sometimes when looking for tickets the fare will drop after the 12 week period has reduced slightly - 11 weeks or thereabouts - seems they penalise you for being keen to book as soon as possible once the 12 week period is open. I am in process of booking for Preston -Glasgow - Ob...

Will suss out sprockets sizes / numbers and possibly go from there although I may leave un...

Replacing worn chain and drive chain ?

Having recently undertaken a cycle maintenance course, I am now aware of my worn out chain and broken derailer, on my old Dawes Galaxy. I would like to upgrade the worn parts and I'm aware its no point putting a new chain onto a worn chainset etc etc, I am confused as to what parts are compatable - ...
