Re: Language pedants

I can cycle 100 miles in a day. I can take a bike apart ,put it back together and maintain it. I have lots of other skills.
Sadly my English is rubbish (grade 3 CSE) and it puts me off posting stuff knowing it will be criticised.

Re: Anyone with experience of FLINGER mudguards ?

I’ve got some. Comparing them with SKS which I also have, I would say they they are more robust. The stays are thicker and they don’t wobble about as much. Probably a bit heavier than SKS. I bought some 24” Vavert mudguards for my daughters bike which seem to be very similar.

Re: Shed and Buried

I think some of the sales are just for the camera because in one show they buy and sell a Norton “bitsa” to one of Henry’s mates but I have seen him riding the same bike in some of his other motorcycle programs.

Re: Spokes and rims: are double butted spokes really needed?

Built 4 sets of 26”wheels using Halo straight spokes, all have been ok so far. Found an xt hub and a spare LX19 rim in the shed so for something to do over Xmas decided to build a front wheel using Sapim double butted spokes. The spokes seemed better quality also I found it easier to lace the wheel a...

Re: Every day is a school day

Today I have learnt that if you should be decorating the bathroom don’t sit down with a cup of tea and decide to have a quick read of the Cycling UK Forum because you will still be there 3 hours later reading about which tyres are best for .....

Re: Sell or store a frame?

I have a theory that people with no clutter just can’t be trusted:They are obviously just too ruthless. What about people like me? I have too much clutter in my head, on my bookshelves, too many cycle parts, a bit like my auntie, she sorted bits of string and wool by length, she had a box marked *p...

Every day is a school day

Today, well yesterday actually ,I learnt not to put a can of fizzy pop in my pannier because it will rupture and cover everything with a sticky residue. I also learnt not to take a pot of rice pudding as a snack because if there are no litter bins around you have to put the empty pot in your pocket ...

Re: Sell or store a frame?

I sold a Mercian frame and put the money towards a Tricross, I know, idiot. Didn’t like the Tricross so I stripped it down sold the frame and put the bits on Surly Pacer frame. Guess what, didn’t like the Pacer, sold the frame. Wish I’d kept the Mercian.

Only in 1.5 and 1.95 but I like Schwalbe City Jets. Can usually be found at reduced prices. Looks like a dyno track on the side of the tyre but I am not sure.

Re: Is undertaking the TransAtlanticWay a completely unrealistic & foolish idea for me?

How old are the kids? My daughter has just turned 13 and won’t want to speak to me for about 9 years let alone go on holiday with me. Things do change as they get older. The last attempt at a family holiday was a disaster which has given me the excuse to go cycling on my own from now on.
