Re: A noob asks... what is the point of toe clips for a commute?

I don't use clip-in pedals, I have traditional pedals with strapless toe clips on both my tourer and hybrid (for my commute). I only use them to keep my foot in the best position for efficient cycling (preventing my feet sliding about and the pedal ending up under my instep). I suspect that the vast...

Re: At what time can I get away with a bike on a train in London?

On a rare visit to The Smoke on saturday, I saw a lad with his road bike sitting in a regular seat on the tube. I'm pretty sure that's not allowed.

Priority for Cyclists?

Now we have a pro-cycling prime minister, should we start a Parliamentary Petition to get the law changed so that Cyclists have priority on all roads other than Motorways (as they have in Denmark)?

Agreed.

On point b, I usually have a bath after a ride and the pants have a bath with me.

Re: Red means STOP! or How I began to hate cyclists.

I understand and agree with your anger, but I find that round where I live, motorists run red lights just as often as cyclists.

Re: Dogs off lead on shared use path

I've noticed that a lot of road-bike people deliberately ignore cycle-paths when they run alongside a road. I seldom use separate cycle paths next to roads unless it's a particularly dangerous road (dual carriage way for example). Often they are more dangerous than the road, near me there's one whi...

Re: Should I worry about cracks in rim alongside spoke holes ?

Just ordered a pair of wheels suitable for disks (with cassette, I was thinking of replacing the cassette anyway) for £63.99.

Re: Should I worry about this?

Thanks for the replies.

It is the rear wheel, just had a look and there are several and all are on the drive side. They have been there for some time but I'm not sure if they've got worse. I'll start looking for a new wheel or rim.....

Should I worry about cracks in rim alongside spoke holes ?

Whilst cleaning my Giant hybrid, I noticed cracks in the rim near the spokes. See picture. The bike has disks so I'm not worried about the rims failing whilst braking.

Re: My first major 'off'. Hit and run. Doncaster.

Also the wing mirror had some sort of serial number on it. I worked in IT for Jaguar and part of the work involved recording part serial numbers. There is a decent chance that a substantial assembly like a wing mirror would be recorded but not 100%. Jaguar was part of Ford up to 2010 and I know the...

Re: Repeated close passes by driver on commute

My wife has a problem with a particular driver around Manchester. She reported it to the police, with video footage, and an officer called round one evening. Shockingly the police advice was to change time or route as the driver was known to them and they feared an escalation of events if they paid...

Re: Why do drivers think this acceptable?

Cycling back from the gym, looking to turn right down a quiet side road, check clear to move to the middle, arm out indicating right, and what happens.? Well, about 50 feet from the turn off two cars think it acceptable to pass me on the right on the other side of the road. I even looked straight a...

Re: Motorists' visibility mark II

The idea probably came from this: http://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/02/29/45/2294539_65fe24df.jpg I remember a guy who worked on the Bluebell Railway telling me some years ago, they would love to install one of these, but they didn't have the space or the planning permission. A lot of their locos...
