Re: Tyre size confusion

Thank you all, especially for the help in posting the photo!

It might be my menopausal brain but those charts still don't make a lot of sense to me. I'm assuming I can use 35 width but am wondering if 38 or 40 will also work, Schwalbe Marathon type, assuming they fit the mudguards, etc.

Tyre size confusion

I don't really understand all the numbers on these wheels, I've looked up several charts and am now more confused than ever.

Can anyone tell me what size tyres are appropriate for a wheel with this marking on it - I do understand that they must also fit the frame of the bike but if someone could give me some general advice I'd be grateful. The current tyres are old and very hard to read, I think they are 700c x 28. I was thinking I'd get 700c x 35 but is it possible to go wider if frame/mudguards allow?

markjohnobrien wrote: 23 Apr 2021, 7:39pm Good luck - late model 708 Raleigh Randonneurs, silver soldered frame, are very nice if you don’t get the Dawes and built by top, top, class framebuilders.
Thank you! :)

I decided against the Dalesman.

I'm going to try out a nice late 1990's Super Galaxy on Monday, fingers crossed that it will be coming home with me

thank you both for the info! I'm still deciding between a Dalesman, Galaxy, Randonneur, etc. Hoping to find one from the 1990s.

So this Dalesman was made in the UK, not just assembled in the UK?

Thank you both! I don't actually own the bike, but am trying to decide if it's worth a punt

Gives catalogue information.
Thank you! Unfortunately I can't find any info regarding this particular frame in that link. So 531st frames were only made in the UK?

Claud Butler Dalesman - hand built in England? Does that just mean assembled in England?

Trying to figure out if this is a British made bike, or just assembled in the UK. Reynolds 531st. I haven't seen this exact logo on a google search so have no idea what decade it's from, but I'm guessing it's a later model. Any input is appreciated!

Re: low budget camping challenge

That's great - I'm looking forward to hearing your reports!

I had all the "good" gear a few years back but became ill and never made the trip so sold most of it, but kept the tent. In 2019 I was very generously given a few bits and went on a little tour but hated how long the tent took to put up and take down, so I sold it. Now I'm looking to get back out again but will be on a much lower budget so am grateful for the ideas here.

This really was an inspired thread :D

Re: low budget camping challenge

I realise this is an old thread but what a great job you did with your budget, Foxyrider!

Did you manage to do any camping with it all? If so, how did you like the tent?

Re: Bought the bike!

Thank you so much, I am very grateful for your detailed reply!

There is a lot of top and side clearance so I am sure it will be able to take some big tyres. I am not likely to be riding on anything rougher than b roads and cycle paths - so I think it will be up to the job. I'll tour with both and see which I like best. Prob keep them both anyway... :)

Re: Bought the bike!

Thanks Drossall! Did you stick to roads or did you go on paths as well?
