Re: ALSA website problems

Hi From recent experience (two weeks ago) the ALSA website will not accept payment from non-Spanish credit cards. You have to go to a travel agent in Spain to book a bus with ALSA. There may be agencies in the UK who could do it for you but you can't do it from outside Spain on their website. Cheers T

Re: UPDATE - Official CTC LEJoG Tours in July and Sept

How much would you spend if you went DIY? To be honest I haven't done the calculation. As I work full time, away from home, and therefore don't really have the time to research and plan, the CTC tour looks like a good idea for me. If you can do it for 750 quid, that's great! But don't berate us les...

Re: UPDATE - Official CTC LEJoG Tours in July and Sept

Yeah, I sort of agree but I was horrified at the cost - especially so when you think you can get a week in a luxury hotel on beach in the Caribbean for that money. 19nights B+B LEJOG at £30 a night is £570 (discount for block bookings) Food through the days at £5 or so each is £100 Support van fuel...

Changing handlebars

Hi Last year I bought a Dawes Clubman. It's a lovely bike to ride. But I have a problem in that with my weight forward on my arms/hands, after a decent ride my shoulder joints ache. I've put this down to a combination of age, (over)weight and the fact that with tyres at or near their max pressure th...

Re: Lets talk Trains...and ferries.

Hi FWIW - if you are travelling by train in North Wales you may well be on a train run by Arriva Trains Wales. They do not take bike bookings any more. The reason being, I was told, that there is no way of policing the bookings. My son and I have taken our bikes (both with two full rear panniers eac...

Re: iPhone apps useful on a bike tour (e.g. good GPS?)

Why not carry a spare battery? Why not carry a spare phone (after all much of the weight of a phone is the battery)? Which then begs the question, why not get a dedicated device anyway? My phone and the endomondo app I use is fine for short rides. For longer rides the phone has proved unsuit...

Re: iPhone apps useful on a bike tour (e.g. good GPS?)

Hi It's been said already in this topic but in my limited experience of using phones for GPS (I have an HTC phone) the biggest problem is daily battery life. I was quite careful with power management etc. but the phone died two hours short of our destination (only a seven hour ride). I have been con...

Search function

Hi

I'm not sure if it's me, but.........

In using the search function, I typed 'Lon ' into the search box in a specific forum. It returned nothing. When I typed 'Cymru' into the search box it returned several posts with 'Lon las Cymru' in the title. Why didn't the search function find 'Lon'?

Re: Accomodation Along Lon Las

Hi Try to avoid the Caernarfon area during the first week of June - it's bank holiday, school holiday and Urdd National Eistedfod all at the same time and accomodation is at a premium. Also try to avoid Hay on Wye during that week and the following week - it's the annual festival. Or take a tent wit...

Re: severn bridge

At least if you cycle its free. It costs a small fortune going east-west in a car. The first time we took the bridge after it was finished to visit our good friends in Swansea we nearly got into difficulties by not having enough cash between us to pay the bridge toll! I note however, that the Welsh...

Re: NCR8 - Lon las Cymru

1. NCN is basically great but don't always follow it slavishly, sometimes it diverts you onto an inferior track when there's a perfectly quiet, pleasant and more direct country lane. Our aim is to try and follow route 8 as closely as possible, as that is the sponsorship undertaking my son has given...
