German radweg Elbe Aller?
Planning a future trip. One ebike plus one touring bike. Travel train to London, Amsterdam, c.Hamburg. Hotel, b&b. 50-60kpd. + sightseeing, art galleries etc. I wonder about combining the Elbe and the Aller paths. We have previously really enjoyed cycling the EV6 canals + Loire from switzerland ...

Re: Hanging bike by front wheel on trains?
Little of this discussion seems to be a response to actual experience of Azuma. I am a 2x annual user of east coast, and I am dreading planning for next summer trip. East Coast luggage vans previously used 3x vertical hangers in the luggage van. But the story has it that the cycle parking toilets on...

Re: Possible Nerve Damage, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
After cycling the Highlander 1200 about 5 years ago, i lost the strength in my left thumb. I had to shift chainring with wrong hand for the last day, which was a bit of a challenge. After stroke specialist was convinced that I had had stroke, I got to see nerve specialist, who determined that it was...

Moan: please double check links before publishing weekly enewsletter
Several times i have tried to follow up links in the weekly e-news, and got to the wrong event. This time it was an item about funding cycle projects in scotland. No amount of searching the website delivered the result. When i looked to send an email to someone at hq, I was sent here. So here it is....

Re: walking shoes for cycling touring
Just to update on this, I found some excellent Crocs Swiftwater sandals for £23.73 on fleabay. They weigh in at 455gms which is quite a bit heavier than the preceding Jinga at 300gms. They also don't fold flat, so they are more bulky to pack. My pannier bags usually have some extra space anyway, so ...

Re: Scotrail refurbished HSTs
One day the Azuma trains may reach the Aberdeen service, probably not in 2019, since they are only reaching York in August. On 9 car trains, the seat maps show 2 [similar?] cupboards with bikes marked on them in Coach K [9 car trains] and 1 cupboard in coaches K and D [5 and 10 car trains]. https://...

Why not a campaign for 20mph speed limit in Scotland, like Wales?
I have just read the BBC news report on Welsh minister's support for making 20mph the default limit.
Could Cycling UK please launch a campaign to do this in Scotland, starting with an electronic letter writing campaign to MSPs

Oh Eurostar we weep to see...
Just booked 2 bikes on Eurostar via Eurodespatch.    What a RIPOFF this has become. Inflation of zillion% A few years go, I took my bike on board in a superlight bag for £0, and the hassle was merely dismantling, carrying it around the terminal and then fending giant suitcas...

Re: Euro Velo 6
We cycled the whole of EV6 France last summer. From Mulhouse to the Atlantic. I estimate that there were only about 5km of dust surfaced path, and they were very good quality. Note that it was hot and dry and did not rain [except for half an hour of damp on the first day]. The rest of the route was ...

walking shoes for cycling touring
I use cycling shoes with spd for cycling. I would like to upgrade my off-bike shoes. Hitherto I have used Jinga shoes [300g], which are excellent for weight, volume, ethically sound; not so good on protection from gravel and other lumps, and also rather too good at picking up tar and other less salu...

Re: Long Distance Cycle Routes
Susie and I have now done 2 such routes. Susie's requirement was to be off road and not go up hills. This year EV6 from Mulhouse to Atlantic. We stayed on route almost all the time, stayed in b&b mainly, met all sorts on the way, eg young girl with toddler and baby camping, a few pensioners like...

Bikes on Eurostar
I find the info provided both by CTC and by Eurostar re bikes on trains does not hit the relevant spot for us. I guess that neither party considers the situation that is relevant to those coming from north of Watford. As last year, after travelling down from the North-East [of Scotland] on Virgin Ea...

Re: Bikes on the TGV trains in France
Thanks for all your advice, and apologies for the tautology in the title. bahn.de was most helpful, having a bike option if you click the Change other data tab. Looks like the favourite is the 1333 from Paris-Bercy a mere 7hrs and 3 changes. Or maybe we need to reconsider the starting point? Perhaps...
