Re: Queen Victoria Postboxes
I'm in Halstead, Essex. My neighbour has, I believe, the largest collection of post boxes in UK. They fill his garden, he has a phone box and a replica post office in a shed. He does have open days. Royal Mail occasionally deliver unusual redundant ones to him. They're heavy!

Re: Parking for 10 days in Netherlands
Albeit years ago, we stayed the first night in a Dutch youth hostel ( I was/am a UK member) with the family, and by prior arrangement left the car there for several days whilst cycle touring and collected it when we finished

Re: North Sea Cycle route (Denmark) - advice please
Copenhagen is on the far east and there are tolls (for cars, not sure about bikes) on bridges back to the mainland. There is an airport at Billund which is served by Ryanair from Stansted, it is primarily for people going to adjacent Legoland but is much nearer the west coast, and also Luton to Esbjerg which is on the west coast

A good sailmaker should be able to make anything in canvas, especially if they do barge sails

Re: Camping towel
Have tried micro fibre towels previously, but better by far are "Hammam" towels, various sizes but very absorbent and dry quickly.

Re: Replacing Fibre glass tent poles !
Alloy poles in any length, thickness, and suitable section length can be obtained from hampton-works.co.uk.
Albeit some 18 years ago, they made me poles for my Saunders Spacepacker with a shorter section length to suit my packing needs for £22 including postage. They are still in business, see their website

Robert Saunders (Tent maker)
Just read in my Camping & Caravanning mag that Robert Saunders, maker of fine lightweight tents, has died at his home in Chignal, Essex. I went to his house to collect my Spacepacker, his workshop was in his garden, a nice man who cared about his product

Re: Advise for a group of Icelandic cyclists in south Englan
If you wanted to land at Stansted there is a company called Trailnet who hire out bikes from their base at the Black Notley Discovery Centre, Braintree,Essex. The centre is close to the Flitch Way, a linear park, formerly a railway line, that runs from Stansted to Braintree, thus opening up north Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. I understand they will hire for long periods and will bring the bikes to the airport. I have no connection with them, the man to contact is Geoff Fletcher on 0044-7939-249980, or via info@trailnet.org.uk. The website will give more detail. A relatively flat East Anglia might make a change from all your hills, the pubs are good and there are loads of history and pretty villages, if you make it to the Norfolk Broads you can rent a boat and explore.

Man and Dog
Does anyone know him, he deserves a mention. Earlier today on the A131 road from Braintree to Halstead, Essex, and later in Halstead on the A131 continuing to Sudbury, Suffolk I saw a fully kitted out touring cyclist, 4 full panniers plus rolled mattress on the rear carrier, with a medium sized dog sitting casually between the mattress and the seat, watching the world go by. I don't think this man worried about saving a few grammes!!
