Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

Can the batteries be replaced easily? I will buy one of these later in the year if so. Owners may correct me but .... when me and t'ladywife were looking at electric bikes for her, we examined an Orbea and a similar Ribble. Although the batteries can be got out, it seemed to involve quite a lot of ...

Re: Trekking handlebars advice pls.

If yopu're tempted by butterfly bars I suggest very strongly that you try before you buy - despite the various hand positions I found them to be the work of Satan.

Re: Track pump spare parts

Decathlon, if there's one near you, sell a dual-valve repalcement head for IIRC about £7 - with a bit of fettling I've fitted 2 or 3 to my track pumps when the originals have failed (that includes a PArk Tool pump) .... did I say I have 7 track pumps, no idea why - they seem to breed! The replacemen...

Re: Rusted chain

There are couple of very rusty links that are probably seized and has potential to damage the rear mech or jockey wheels - looks like it's a 10speed and a reasonable KMC chain isn't much money in the scheme of things. Just keep it lubricated (and mend the shed roof!!

Re: E-motion app for Orbea Gain

My comment would be why bother with the app - just enjoy riding the bike (I love my Gain) ...

The battery indicator on the bike is a pretty good guide . . . .and if you want some stats get a Garmin that gives you navigation and loooooong battery life.

Re: Bike roof racks

Thule every time - BUT lifting bikes onto a roof rack is tricky (and I'm 6'4" tall!) - if you can run to it a towbar and towbar rack is the best solution ... not just ease of loading but you also have much less wind resistance that (IME) affects the fuel consumption quite considerably with car-...

Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

Hi where is the best place to buy one of these? I have an ankle problem that has been operated on but on hills it’s just so painful. I’m fairly new to cycling and done my first audax yesterday but every hill my ankle just feels like it is on fire. An e-bike like the orbea should help me continue to...

Re: Making a PDF map from a GPX file

https://www.plotaroute.com/ Having been creating a series of routes for an upcoming ride across Europe I've used Plotaroute to create excellent pdf maps - the basic stuff is free, if you need a multi-page map then you have to pay a modest amount to "join" Plotaroute. There's no doubt that...

.... and I wonder what will happen to the Mavic "neutral service cars" (and motorbikes) at the big grand tour races?

Re: Mavic: circling the U-bend?

Mavic has been moving in mysterious circles for some time - not seeming to want to supply shops with products or spares and being unresponsive to technical/support queries.

There would appear to be a hole on the vertical face opposite the strap - my guess is that an Allen key or small screwdriver inserted will turn some sort of cam that tensions the strap.

Re: Folding ebike recommendations

Why a folder? Most are not very compact when folded and tend to be heavier than a standard ebike. That said the Lectro LE 001 isn't bad for a step-through folder with good battery life/range - and just under £1,000 at £950 RRP [Shameless plug : I sell them in my shop] Our view on price-point for any...

Re: loose nut on crankshaft, but tighten too much and can't pedal

Unless I am missing something the type of axle/BB isn't clear - is it a "cartridge" or an old style "cup and axle" ? Without that info suggestions are probably not much use? The latter type could suffer from over-tightening which would stop the axle rotation - and leaving it all ...

Re: Westhill Link E-Bike (folding)

A view on the bottom price point on an ebike from our shops is £1000 - £1200 - less than that and you're buying something that's going to be very heavy and have a poor quality/short-life battery. The aside about the shopping channel ebike - someone brought one into my shop the other day wanting to t...

Re: Must I buy from Halfords?

I think you'll find that the battery will be machine specific to fit the mountings in/on the frame- certainly the ebikes I sell in my shop are - although some models within the same brand (e.g. ebco) do share a battery model. There is also an issue with mail order and ebike batteries as they are not...
