Banana, Flapjacks and a particular favorite is Eccles cakes. Don't know if you can get them in Holland though.

Re: excellent budget camera for touring
If you can spend another £40 you could get the Canon Powershot SX500 IS which is a bridge camera but quite compact. I bought one from Argus and at £140 reduced it's a bargain and a cracking camera. 30x optical zoom, 16mp. It won't fit in a small pocket but fits fine in my bar bag.

Starting from Lourdes i will head west after visiting the Pyrenees to do the Atlantic Coast route. Ferry from Roscoff to Plymouth and then either cycle home back to Birmingham or get train.

The Mawddach trail that runs between Barmouth and Dolgellau is excellent. Lovely views.

Re: It's not much fun cycling at 125mph!
Best to phone up and book i'd say and the earlier the better as prices are normally cheaper. I did this for the sleeper train from Crewe to Inverness and then for the train that goes from Inverness to Wick. Lady i spoke to was most helpful, checked that spaces were available, booked them for me, i p...

Re: Silly shortcuts
Not so much a silly shortcut but more silly me. On my Jogle ride last year i took the trail that runs from Gilmonby to Tan Hill. Not a nice surface to ride on even with 35mm tyres. At a split in the trail i didn't look at the signs properly and ended up going the wrong way. After going for quite som...

I can recommend the B&B in Altnaharra. Stopped there when i did my Jogle last year. Lovely 3 course evening meal. Amazing price for what you get.

Re: Cycle tour with children 11 y. Recommendations?
I can't really think of anything suitable for kids tour wise. The cycling infrastructure just isn't that great in Britain. I'm off to cycle in Holland and Germany in the summer and i think it's going to be so different to over here.
