Re: Hydrolic disc brake freak out

Disc brake discs used to be deeper, i.e. the surface of the disc that the pad touches , used to be equal to the depth of the pad. Now, in an effort to save weight, be more fashionable, and also suit all makes of calliper/ pad without excess weight, the discs are shallower, and often shimano type pad...

Re: Have my legs got longer?

I too, very recently came to the conclusion my saddle was too low, as I was lacking power up hill whilst seated, and my legs ached. So I raised it 4mm+/-, and what a difference, over a 50km ride my avg speed shot up!! from 19.5 to 22 kmh. I know its not fast, but I suppose i was riding faster becaus...

Re: Oil on rim causes brake to squeal

best way to clean rims, some kitchen roll, folded up into a pad, a spot or two of washing up liquid on said pad, and wipe the rim, and watch the dirt come off, then rub off any left with a clean dry bit of pad . Be careful, the brakes can be a bit grabby till they get a bit grubby again!

Re: Waterproof/Waterproofing An 1 1/8 inch Threadless Headset.

cut a 3" section out of an old FAT MTB tube, slip this over the steerer and headset, just enough to cover the bottom lip of the cup, otherwise its likely to drag on the head tube when steering.

Re: is there a doctor in the house?

I had this, doing a 200 km audax on the hottest day of the year. I am assuming that the chafing is recent, and did it start with the purchase of your new shorts. Turn them inside out, and look at the stitching pattern. My shorts, that gave me trouble , had an externally viewable stitching, that was ...

Re: Blackburn pannier rack?

Yes it's a Blackburn low rider front rack, and there should be 2 of them . The split bit at the top fixes to the double sided fork boss ( if you have a double sided( inner and outer) fork boss, and the other end fixes to the boss near the qr. If you only have a single sided upper boss, you'll need t...

Re: Books and clothing

can you tell me what model the top is, a picture and a pic of the hole as well. You say XL, but what size is xl, how tall are you and are you big, slim etc. Sizing is always difficult, I wouldn't want it to like a tent on me. I'm 6'2" 42" ish chest and 14 stone. Thanks

Re: Ridgeback hybrids and their potential

Thank you for all your advice. Sounds like it's just the sort of thing I need. I don't think I'll be hanging out with the sort of people who would sneer at a bike that wasn't hand-made by a dedicated craftsman. Not if I can help it anyway! Depending on your size, nice Ridgeback in the for sale sect...

Re: Ridgeback hybrids and their potential

Overall I am very impressed and intend to use and abuse it for many more years. Agree with this 100% . Olive replaced a rather special Bob Jackson, that was rather too special, if you know what I mean. Olive is an attractive workhorse, that is my Do It All bike, pub, commute (all weather), club runs...
