Re: last second ebay bidding
Yebbut! whilst in the death throws of an auction, presumably one wouldn't have shown one's interest up to this point, so if an item had bids up to £100, highest bid by bidder A, and with 5 secs to go you place a bid for £120, there is NO guarantee that A) Bidder A hasn't already bid up to £150, or a sniper will come in, or another bidder comes in a second after you. Luck of the draw really, ''you win some, you lo.....''Jezrant wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 10:18amSniping software is cleverer than the punters who think they can outgame the system by frantically upping their maximum bid in the final moments of the auction.mattheus wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 10:07amThat was my understanding, too. I only use eBay now for BUY IT NOW items, as I can't be bothered with all this ...
but back-in-the-day I remember telling eBay my MAX BID, then walking away, knowing I didn't WANT to pay more than that. (maybe I'll get the item, maybe I won't because someone was willing to pay more). And you couldn't outbid me by a penny to "win " the game, as eBay had a minimum "raise" (as would any sensible real world auction room).
So now I've made it clear that I am decades behind the times ...
Are folk here saying that the current Sniping Software is cleverer than eBay's inbuilt feature? IAMFI :-)

Re: Unbending, or Not.
Next step…, might I suggest N+1, in the form of a lighter weight jobbie, with nice plush 650b wheels and 42mm fast rolling tyres, you won’t need the front suspension then. A ‘cushy ride’.

Re: Pain on outer edge of right foot in cleats
Pain from the fifth metatarsal can come from tendon strain, as the tendons comes down the outside of the lower leg, and tucks into a groove behind the ankle bone, with a flap of tendon/skin over them, like a strap, to hold them in place. They then carry on and one goes to the fifth metatarsal. Is your 'small side bone' on your foot, larger than the other foot? Feels like you have a small stone in your sock just there? The tendon can pull away/partially pull away from where it joins the foot, and needs surgery sometimes, ditto the little flap behind the ankle, if that tears, the tendon can 'pop' out of the groove.
I'm no doctor, but did some googling after my wife fell on me on 3rd Dec, after tripping over her bike, causing my ankle to 'pop' twice, and I'm just starting to walk without a hobble. What's this got to do with the OP? well nowt really, other than if you have tendon strain it will pull under the foot. Might I suggest a retro approach? Get yourself some cheap flat touring pedals with plastic cages and toe straps, (I bought a new pair for about £12 a while back, and after putting some grease in the bearings they are fine) to support the whole foot bed, as with cleats, there could be a tendency to naturally turn your foot out as you rotate.
With a 'lateral' tendon strain , the ankle has difficulty in withstanding outward overturning, and if your whole foot isn't supported, the ankle may be trying to resist overturning outwards.

But shirley, if it’s moves that much with finger tips, then when honking out of the saddle, the rear wheel will be tracking all over the place?

Re: Herne Bay
Do check tho, I think its May 1 onwards, (check!) the promenade is closed to cylcists in so many places, requireing dismount and walk past the beach huts, it becomes a bit of a pain, makes the trip so much longer. Double Decker bus cafe on Margate seafront is good btw. also Peter's Fish factory, up near the harbour is excellent and v good vfm. just watch out for seagulls.

What I would be interested in trying, would be a 650b Spa Audax mono, with cantilevers and a rear gear hanger option.
