Re: Cycling Paths

Hello Marine032 Oxfordshire has a lot of varied terrain from flat river side and canal side paths to undulating chalk bridleways West in the Cotswolds and the Ridgeway path to the South. There are plenty of Green lanes ideal for your bikes but not too much in the way of forest fire trails and the li...

Re: Bottom Bracket Threads Failed - Best Solution?

Thanks Brucey If the thread less units are variable I'll stick to the Shimano UN5x series as they seem to last forever. I don't have the funds for a proper job like sleeving or cut n' shutting and courier costs and don't have access to MIG equipment so am looking at epoxy but am tempted by Loctite F...

Re: Bottom Bracket Threads Failed - Best Solution?

Thanks for all the pointers everyone - after tapping out I'll see how the unit tightens up. Looks like a thread less unit would be the route of least resistance.

Anyone used Loctite Form a Thread before? It looks like a possible easy solution but sounds too good to be true....

Bottom Bracket Threads Failed - Best Solution?

Twenty five miles from home and the UN54 goes looser and looser at both ends! The units been in for years and the frame is about 26 years old and when dismantled the drive side was the problem - it would tighten up to a point then slip. Tried another UN54 and same issue so the frame thread on the dr...

Re: 28-38-48 swapped to 22-32-42 - FD shift problems

Finally sorted this issue sorted out on the Randonneur - got an XT M781 triple Dynasys FD today and this shifts under load in all combinations are slick and immediate. Using 11-32 8 speed cassette and 22-32-42 Alivio crankset Bar end shifters Alivio 8 speed RD The new FD has a profile for 42T max ou...

Re: Dynohub Lacing - 26" Sputnik Rim - 2 or 3 cross?

Thanks for your advice - I'll be going 2 cross - got the spokes from the LBS today and the rim's coming tomorrow so will get it built up and see how it goes on the rigours of the commute. The Surly doesn't carry front luggage so not too worried about mega-strength and the rims are sturdy enough. I'l...

Dynohub Lacing - 26" Sputnik Rim - 2 or 3 cross?

I've ordered a Shimano Dynohub and Sputnik 26" 36 hole rim to share between my rim braked commuter bike and Surly Long Haul Trucker. Battery lifecycle lifetime has always disappointed me and my existing dynohub set up on my 700c tourer is great (the other night I kept thinking cars were behind ...

Re: 26mm Clamp A-Head Riser Stem Source

Thanks for the pointers everyone - I'm going for black components so everything matches so Velo components in silver are ruled out so I'll go with 31.8 clamp with a shim in a 35 degree rise in 70mm length. Just got to wait for Eonenergy to refund me my ridiculous overpayment to get the goodies on or...

Re: 26mm Clamp A-Head Riser Stem Source

Thanks for the links Erudin - Tweeks also do a stubby BBB riser stem in black in 31.8 clamp so that could be the answer.

26mm Clamp A-Head Riser Stem Source

My Surly Long Haul Trucker frame is now all built up and with a few hundred miles done it's now time to replace some of the items used from my spares batcave in the original build. I want to get a really wide drop handlebar - I have a 48cm Nitto on my Audax bike and it's really comfy so want to use ...

Re: Front derailleur clicks when pushing on right pedal

It could be the cable touching the crank arm.

Re: Tick...Tick...Tick...

If it's a BB30 bottom bracket these are notorious for clicking and may need replacing - usually a warranty job.

Re: Nitto Quill Stem Visible Heights - 26mm Clamp Size

Thanks Brucey - appreciate your advice - just got some 42mm SKS Blumels mudguards on the Audax with 32mm tyres on your advice previously - luckily didn't need to change the calipers to Tektros from Shimanos.

Re: Nitto Quill Stem Visible Heights - 26mm Clamp Size

Hello Kenn Thats more than enough extension for my bikes. The 280mm Technolemic gave 195mm and I've dropped that to 170mm. It looks a little less daft now and there is nowhere near as much flex. The only worrying thing is that the plastic ring in the headset lock nut has disappeared. I think the fle...

Re: Nitto Quill Stem Visible Heights - 26mm Clamp Size

Thanks for pointer to the Rivbike website Kenn - makes it clear how they compare now. Good to know how much the the 225mm Technomic will actually give Mick - appreciate the heads up. I'm erring towards the Dirt Drop now as it will give 1-2 inches above the saddle height whereas the 225mm Technomic w...
