Re: Re-gluing tub base tape

I think I used Evostick, the contact version. A very thin layer - spread thinly with a finger ( best tool ever invented ! ) allowed to dry properly and then a one-chance stick! Don't remember any problems.
Cor - it's many years since I rode - all the year- on tubs !

Re: 'vintage' MTBs - is there a market?

Helpful and interesting comments, thanks.
Yes I frequent retrobikes.com, mainly for the pictures and memories !!
I do have a 1990 Merckx road bike, in 753 not Columbus tubing ( wife's is a 1986 Gazelle 753 ) both owned since new.
I do have a 'modern' - a Trek 5900 from 2004 :D

'vintage' MTBs - is there a market?

I ask as I have one - well it 's my wife's but she no longer wants it ( it's OK she still has two road bikes !) Muddy Fox , aluminium frame, Shimano XT gears, all original except rear brake blocks! We cannot find the receipt but believe it was bought new late 1990 but it was the previous year's mode...

Re: 10 speed Double for commuting?

I don't agree with Brucey. I have used 'best quality' i.e. expensive , racing equipment since I could afford it ; waaay back in about 1965, having had to put up with cheap stuff that was unreliable for a couple of years. I commuted, 13 miles each way, on Record and then Dura Ace between1984 - 1998, ...

Re: Polar heart rate/ speed senders??

Thanks for the response. I'd be happy to have the items and see what I can do. I hate being beaten by these things ! I'm sure another sender attempt ( my 3rd ) must be 3rd time lucky ! If you are happy to pass it all on let me know how much you'd like for the lot and add on sufficient postage. What ...

Polar heart rate/ speed senders??

I have a Polar CS100, my second , and it is at least 10 years old ! The head unit is fine, batteries easy to change etc. The 'old' chest straps do not have serviceable batteries - it's a complete new strap.... but OK ... they last a long time with me! However the speed sensor has recently packed up....

Re: Holdsworth Special Lightweight

my wife's, now, winter bike is 531SL and was built during 1977 by Mike Mullett - so 531 SL was available in 1977 - but I think it was very new then- as was the 753 Raleigh I had at the time.

Re: headset fitment sizes

Thanks chaps. I think I overtightened it a couple of months back....... :( The rest of the bike is Dura Ace , that's all ! Thanks for the links. I can get this sorted now although it will not get used much shortly as the winter bike ( mudguards) will be in use. Tried to get her to look at a carbon F...

headset fitment sizes

Need a new headset on wife's bike - a one owner since new 1986 Gazelle 753, now on it's third headset (about to be 4th !) Last two have been Dura Ace, first was Record. I always keep old box so that when I need a new one I have all the info , however...... They seem to come in 1" or 1 1/8"...

Shimano external bottom bracket

I've got a NOS 5800 crankset and need a bracket assembly: Shimano Dura Ace - typically around the £30 mark -- with reports that the bearings don't seem to last long (and that they use a plastic shim (??) that is not the best engineering practice ). Hope also make this bracket: replaceable bearings, ...

cleaning/proofing a Karrimore saddlebag

This is old - probably bought new in the early/mid 1970s --it must be about 35+ years old -- I seem to remember it cost quite a bit at the time. It was a very dark gray (IIRC) with side pockets loops on top for the cape etc etc. It could do with a clean up and waterproofing treatment (?) Is there a ...

Brake blocks/pads

Have spent the afternoon sorting out a cupboard full of the various bike 'things I keep'..... I have found that I have three new sets of Shimano brake pads but one set, in shoes, is for ceramic rims only. Are these harder? Mrs kingfisher has Mavic open pro ceramic rims so would these offer better st...

Re: Changing over saddle frames ?

OK a follow up - just on the offchance that anybody is interested !! I placed the saddle on the floor Stood on the nose - pushing down in the middle of the saddle top with both thumbs and eventually ( several attempts) managed to 'spring' the remaining rail out of the back fixing. It seemd to be a c...
