Re: 10 Day Route advice

Having done a JOGLE which was into the wind, and rain, far too often I believe you should stick with a LEJOG although I have yet to do one myself. 85-110m into the wind is blooming hard work or was for me. My fastest average moving speed was 13.4 for a 100m day yet a friend who went the other way wi...

Re: LE - Wells

Personally I hated the A3075 Redruth to Newquay Road more than any other road on my JOGLE!! That maybe due to timing as it was the 2nd week of July, or may be I just caught at the wrong time of day (5pm) but I do know it felt a bit like the middle of the M25 at rush hour!!! Nasty, nasty road IMO. I'...

Re: JOGLE/LEJOG Queries

This time last year when I suggested doing my 'JOGLE over 12 days with support' a number of people said I was being over ambitious given I chose a 'long route' (inc Dunnet Head, The Lizard and Arran 1,050m). Whilst I may have proved them wrong and had 1/2 a day to spare there was considerable wisdom...

Re: Most important planning for LEJOG

Personally, route planning probably consumed more hours than the ride!! Where do you start?? That's a question all to often asked here and Rob's site give a some wonderful options however first I'd recommend you have to ask yourself what you are hoping to get out of the ride and how much time do you...

Re: My JOGLE

Good Luck Dave! I'd strongly recommend a Garmin as mobile signal is not always available or use NavFree app which I don't believe needs signal. Although if you had a couple of battery packs you could charge in the car overnight you could probably get away with an iPhone. 14 days is a good target sch...

Re: Accommodation best way of finding

Absolutely agree with Mick F. I booked 1st 4 nights and remainder were a nightmare to find and only as we had support were we able to drive to the B&B on several occasions. Can imagine at certain times of the year this may not be an issue but in early July it certainly was.

Stephen, thank you. 60 views and 1 reply did make me wonder if the forum / my post should be renamed 'bah humbug'?

Xmas 2011 HQ2-1.jpg

Once again I thank you all for the advice, help and encouragement you gave that helped me achieve my ambition of a JOGLE this year.

May 2012 see many more follow their dreams on 2 wheels.

Re: 14 day LEJOG & Garmin 800 questions

Hi Donnieban I have moved from bikely and have now started to put my day routes together on bikeroutetoaster in advance of purchasing the Garmin. I used BikeRouteToaster for my JOGLE in July and even planned alternative routes for certain days if the weather or traffic was not to my liking. I found ...

Re: Lejog April/May 2012 any takers???

Hi Craig, your trip sounds of interest as I did a top to bottom JOGLE in July circa 1,050m in 11.5 so with a bit of training should be up for a 10day LEJOG. Have you planned a route? What average moving speed are you aiming for? What kind of accommodation are you intending to use. I can offer a VW T...

Re: Final Section from Glencoe to JOG

That climb from Drumnadochit on the A833 would be HELL. We came the other way = down it on my JOGLE and we spent the whole evening trying to imagine how hard it would have been if we had been going the other way!! Definitely one to avoid, IMO.

Re: caledonian canal

I tried the Caledonian Canal on Day 3 of my JOGLE and had 2 punctures shortly after joining it at Fort Augustus. Given this delay, a horrible headwind and the need to get to Oban from Drumnadochit (95m) I took to the A82 despite all Mick F's warnings. For a July Monday morning it was quieter than I ...
