Re: The most countries in one day?
I seem to remember Steve Gill (he of the beard) ticking off four western European countries in a single day. Details elude me however.

Now you mention it - yes, they do seem to have. Does anyone know any background to that?[/quote]
Thorn supplied a bike with the description ''the best bike ever- period.'' Or words to that effect. Chris found faults to that claim regarding construction of the frame and how components were fitted.
Criticisms of the bike were not well received by Thorn, who complained via the letters page, including saying that if this is how you treat one of your major advertisers, etc.

That's the one.
I remember a verbal punch-up in the magazine between Simon and Chris Judan about a test bike being badly out of alignment.
After this tiff, Orbit seemed to pull their ads from the magazine, just as Thorn have, I believe.

The benchmark for quality skills and services
Cycle retailers and workshops who are 'Cytech Accredited' have at least one member of staff employed who has undergone professional training and accreditation to either Cytech Technical Level Two or Three standard. The business also needs to be a full member of the Association of Cycle Traders.
Cytech courses encompass the basics of cycle mechanics right through to dealing with the most advanced and high-tech components and parts.
Cytech mechanics are required to pass a number of practical and theory tests before qualification.
If you take your bike into a shop which has been Cytech Accredited you can have peace of mind that your bike is in safe hands and confidence that your bike has been prepared for purpose.
Search for Cytech Accredited bike shops near you.
http://www.thecyclingexperts.co.uk/cytech/cytech-accreditation/
If an accomplished home mechanic wants needs to be certified he can take a course with Cytech, then he can stand in court with some degree of confidence and explain to the judge that as part of his training he always checks that the quick release is properly fastened on the wheel before it leaves the shop, while some barrister is trying to tear him to shreds to get money for his clients broken nose, caused by not tightening his own quick release when he had a puncture, but sought to earn a quick buck by blaming the bike shop where he bought the bike.
A lot if these industry certification schemes are in place because of the litigious way society has nowadays found itself in.
What could possibly be wrong in having all bikeshops having their mechanics enrolled and trained to at least the basic Cytech standards. It has to be an advancement for cycling in general.
What could possibly be wrong? I can think of over 2,600 reasons if you find yourself having to fund your own training.

Has anyone noticed that Cinelli seem to have re-introduced their 1A stems and type 64 handlebars?

Re: Isle of Wight Ferries - info needed
As posted already, a 2am sailing will get you a fare of around £20 each way. I never saw a ferry/camping deal while researching for a weeks trip last year. And yes, there's plenty for a weeks cycling!

It was downhill after her first two books IMHO.

Air horns
Many moons ago I read a review for a small air horn for use on bikes. This consisted of a small CO2 cartridge, the attachment to make the sound and a small u-shaped trigger to activate it. The great thing was it fitted inside the end of a straight mtb-type handlebar in place of the end plug, with just the trigger showing. Very neat, but- I've never seen anything remotely like it since!
Does anyone know of anything similar?

The Contour HD without GPS is now discontinued and can be picked up for around £120. This contrasts with £285.00 for the GPS version.

Re: 4yr old riding bike, accused of scratching neighbours car
I was under the impression that it was wheel size that determined whether a bike was 'legal' or 'illegal' to ride on the pavement, 20" and under being okay. I doubt a 4 year old would have wheels bigger than this.
Absolutely the right thing to involve the police and do carry on logging each and evey incident. I'm sure your child must be picking up on this and it's totally unacceptable some bullying individual can carry on intimidating you this way.

I remember a complaint to a newspaper about this very issue. They responded belittling the complaintant saying, among other things, that he was 'being pedantic.' It's the usual case of 'four wheels good' and two wheels (or legs) bad...

Congrats. on that, Porky. Great feeling, isn't it!
My first 100 was a reliability ride over 30 years ago and I can still remember the elation now! Wasn't there provision for doing the 100 in 8, 9 or 10 hours?
