Re: Is anyone moving?

I suggest you read up a bit on Italian politics, I have a feeling you might not like the way the things are run there....but it will be sunnier We have an Italian working with us who moved to the UK to get away from all the corruption they apparently have there. She came back because she couldn't s...

Re: Social Distancing: Thanks, and No Thanks

I’d be very surprised if you can find the government instructions for people to disregard animal welfare during this crisis. I don't need to. You should only leave the house for very limited purposes: shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as poss...

Re: Social Distancing: Thanks, and No Thanks

Thankfully I’m not one of the people identified in the OP I’m in a different country and possibly a different world :D I have to say though I’m still not getting why some are becoming upset because someone passed them in the open air within 2 metres or if following WHO 3 ft. This statement coronavi...

Re: Is the UK government an incompentent bunch of liars?

I too feel that a little excess of ungentlemanly intercourse has graced these pages. We need to remember that this situation we're all in, is probably the worst that there's been since WW2, when considering all the interlinking impacts. I don't know of any family member that has died from seasonal ...

Re: C19 - Ending The Lockdown

I'm amazed that some people want others to remain in social isolation and to practice social distancing when there is no need to do so just because it is not fair on those who need to. Life's not fair. Most adults know that. Never a truer word. And those that know how to take advantage of the fact ...

Didn't we tear each other apart thoroughly enough in the "How serious thread"?

Nobody was fooled by Mr Corbyn.

That's crystal clear.

The great thing about democracy is that you don't have to fool all of the people all of the time, a small majority gets the job done.

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

It's an old philosophy saw. posed in many guises: "You are at the points of a railway junction with a runaway train coming your way. Switch left will kill just your two children waiting in a carriage down the siding; right will kill twenty other people on the train coming the other way. Which ...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

One thing that has puzzled me, I must confess (genuine puzzlement as opposed to Forum puzzlement, iyswim) are the 'Feed the NHS' initiatives springing up. Why, I am wondering? I saw the upset lady critical care nurse's video which went viral, but there's plenty of food in the shops, and as long as ...

Re: Bucking the trend: Some good news (maybe)

I was trying to find the definitive guide to our lockdown regs (in Spain) yesterday and ended up on a solicitor's web page. Lot's of people seeking advice, many of them have had their details taken by officials whilst out and about and very few know whether they've been reported for offences or not....

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” ― Isaac Asimov Dara Ó Briain has expressed similar sentiment but the delivery was much ...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

The view from further down the road, hopefully the UK has done enough to prevent joining us. https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-03-27/coronavirus-in-spain-five-crises-rolled-into-one.html What have we done more than Spain? I'd hope that the difference in culture (more living indoors, much less...
