Re: St Malo to Calpe (Alicante)

HI Robing

Was it the CV 207 then the CV 209 you backtracked at Barraques on your way to Viver?

Re: St Malo to Calpe (Alicante)

Thanks, Albal Cycling from Pamplona to Teruel appears to be the biggest headache in planning the trip. Presently the plan is St Malo to Nantes, then picking up La Velodyssee all the way down down the Atlantic coast until the Spanish border. We then pick up the' car free' "Via Verde del Bidasoa&...

St Malo to Calpe (Alicante)

Next May we propose to cycle from our home in Hampshire to our holiday home in Calpe (about 1500km). It looks pretty straightforward once we get off the ferry at St Malo (cycle to Nantes then La Velodyssee to Bayonne) but where do we cross the Pyrenees and are the tunnels safe for cyclists? Assuming...

Re: Eurostar and bikes (again!)

You guessed right, Andy. The clue to where I live is in the Username! So, living near Portsmouth Ferry Port does make life easy for us, but equally a train up to Waterloo and a peddle across to St Pancreas is almost just as easy. Thanks for all the replies: I think you have persuaded us to go for th...

Re: Hook of Holland to Amsterdam with 9yr old twins

We did a similar tour leaving the Hook of Holland and cycling up the Rhine via Amsterdam , Amelsfoort and Arnhem. The cycling from Hook to Haarlem is all on dedicated cycle paths along the sand dunes: very pleasant indeed (providing it is not windy!) and your two 9 year olds will love it. We stayed ...

Eurostar and bikes (again!)

Four of us are cycling Loire a Velo this summer. The plan is to travel to Paris on Eurostar and then on another train to Nevers to start the tour. Taking bikes on the Nevers train does not seem to be a problem. I called the Euro Dispatch office and inquired about booking four bikes, to be told "...

Petersfield to Valencia

I am starting early planning of a cycle route between my to homes. The first day ride is a bit of a 'no brainer': 26miles over the South Downs to Portsmouth ferry port and then on the ferry to Caen. What follows is a 950 mile ride to the Costa Blanca. Does anyone have any ideas or can point me to an...

Re: Hewitt Cheviot SE colours

This is my Cheviot SE parked in the corner during our LEJOG, summer 2011. My son Tommy completed his LEJOG on his ( 5 speed!) Islabike and since we cycled past the Islabike factory at Ludlow on the way up, we decided to pay a visit and Tommy had is picture taken with the manager. Anyway, back to the...

Re: London-Portsmouth route?

[quoteDone it (London - Portsmouth) a couple of times on the way to catch a ferry to St Malo to continue tour. Very cool - arguably better than subsequent days in Brittany and Normandy. Takes several hours - can be a bit of a slog over the hills. There's a climb out of a place called South Harting t...

Re: The most underrated pieces of cycle touring kit

A headache.
Doesn't weigh much but tends to make you irritable and press on with the day's ride.

Stags, etc at Lochranza

[quoteThe remarkable thing about my own visit to the bike shed was being confronted by a stag standing right in front of the shed entrance when I when to put my Sardar to bed. I,m not sure which one of us was more surprised. But after what felt like half an hour but was probably 2 mins, said stag lo...

Re: Can I take my bike into French and Belgian hotel rooms??

Pompey Joe, I have to correct the above post, I have just checked on Garmin Mapsource and there is a closer F1 to the port than the one I described above. It is on the Rue Du 8 Mai in Grande - Synthe approx 12 km from the port. [ Thanks, I sussed that out in Google Earth this pm! Looking at their w...

Re: Can I take my bike into French and Belgian hotel rooms??

Thanks for all the advice ,chaps. I did not ask the question of Holland since I have made the assumption that since they are all cycle mad over there then there will be no problem. Looks like I'll try the Hotel F1 at Dunkirk first; our second night is Brugge and from memory I think this town is also...
