Re: TIED AND SOLDERED
Actually Purdy shotguns are tacky, gaudy, and usually owned by the same type of [inappropriate word removed] who drives around in his white Range/Land Rover, just to make sure everyone looks at him. Have encountered the type before, and had very little patience for them. Your clumsy and ill-fitting ...

Re: TIED AND SOLDERED
With respect to measurements that have been taken by various people. I was one of the fools at the beginning of the Freeride movement, when that meant hucking and other obscene forms of bike abuse. Regardless of how they measure or not, the wheels with twisted/soldered would last 3x longer than stan...

Re: Decent brakes
Oh dear.. a Scot living in Yorkshire eh? ..bit like a Welshman with all the generosity beat out of him :) All kidding aside.. I don't know the Dawes very well..but assuming it has rim brakes, I'd suggest, for absolutely minimal money spent that you replace the front cable inner (2 quid?) and lubrica...

Re: Mavic Aksium vs Halo Aerorage 700c road wheels
+1 on the Fulcrum 7's. I had a pair for a while.. great wheel.. tough.. reliable.. sold them to a friend who's still riding them.. they have a HUGE number of km's on them now.. and have never given a hint of trouble...

Re: Carbon seatpost, steel frame, grease?
Scary thing about both the Ritchie and Bonty torque keys, is that they're never really @ 5.. put them against a calibrated torque wrench and test a few.. you'll find a range from 4 to 7Nm.. which really slots them into the utterly useless category..

Re: Carbon seatpost, steel frame, grease?
No..don't go without anything.. get the carbon assembly paste..
The carbon is quite slippery, and likely will slip in the frame..unless you tighten the seat post clamp to the point of damaging the carbon..
just spend the few quid, get the paste, and do it right..

Re: Woss this then?
Looks a lot like a hanger on which you suspend a basket from the stem.. The basket would nip up under the bars, and hang on that bracket which clamped around the part of the quill stem sticking out of the steerer. On the basket, was a tab with 3 little.. nubbies, which dropped into those holes and s...

Re: Pictures of your bike(s)
...hope it's ok to post an updated pic. It's now pretty much done. Got the new disc for the rear, and replaced the Ultegra cranks with some Rotors. I'll tweak the little bits here and there, but it's largely as it's going to be for a while. http://anotherdooratthe.endoftheinternet.org/wp-uploads/201...

Ok.. this is pathetic, but it was pointed out to me that if you read the majority of these comments aloud to yourself and replace 'tandem' or 'a tandem' with 'kinky sex life'.. it's really quite entertaining >>> :) ........................ http://anotherdooratthe.endoftheinternet.org Cycle related b...

Re: Advice sought on a new bike
I don't know the Dawes very well, but I know someone with the Giant Tourer and it seems to be a great bike for the money - I'd say pretty hard to go wrong with.

Re: Crank bolts; so many to choose from.
CRC has been great to me.. I've bought everything from very large orders, to tiny bits and pieces, and their service has always been excellent, never had any problem with returns either.. .. am very happy with them..
