Re: Quiet site near Loch Ness

I think the CL’s of the C&CC often specify own sanitation. Not handy for cycle camping. A Dutch couple of backpackers with a tiny tent had a full size hard standing pitch next to me at Dingwall last year. The site manager had to be persuaded that they were exhausted and could not travel further ...

Re: I do love safety cameras!

As an addition to some earlier posts — tall lorries often get jammed on Connel Bridge near Oban where the height limit is clearly marked at 4.2 metres. Average speed cameras on the A9 north of Perth have apparently reduced the accident rate considerably. Cyclists and pedestrians can usually get past...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

My sister in law is having to spend in excess of 5000 Kroner to become a Danish citizen although she has lived in Denmark nor for over 50 years. This is in addition to having to sit a stiff exam on Danish history where her Danish friends are cannot answer most of the questions. She thinks the UK is ...

Re: Should You Install E-Assist On Your Trike/Bike?

I have a GTech bike which I inherited so it cost me nothing. I use it sometimes for a 20 mile run I do as the average speed is higher than my usual but I feel it does not have the range I would like. I looked at ebikes but I do not think battery range for my needs is enough without spending silly mo...

Re: Builders/lorries: are they allowed to park on cycle lanes?

Where I live a lot of houses have oil fired heating. The supply tanks are invariably put somewhere near the street so the delivery tanker has no option but to block the street for other vehicles while making a delivery as the streets are all pretty narrow. I see this on a regular basis but nobody se...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Even worse the EU is introducing laws to curb tax evasion and money laundering apparently. Hence the big rush to get out from under before this comes in.

thirdcrank is correct of course and we have wandered off course. Did I read somewhere that there is a move afoot somewhere to have a referendum regarding England leaving the UK?

Re: Freedom for England

I should add that Scots were told that voting for independence meant they would have to leave the EU which convinced many to vote anti independence as they wanted to stay in the EU. They now realise they were wrongly advised which does not please anybody. In my local area there are many English inco...

Re: Freedom for England

I have been reading the comments about the SNP and Scottish desire for self government with some bemusement. As an ordinary Scot living in an ordinary community I am a card carrying SNP member but not in any way an activist I fail to recognise any validity in the anti statements made by some posters...

Re: Freedom for England

loch eck steve you must live in a parallel universe or do you only read the Daily Fail or it’s ilk. There is a majority in favour of independence for Scotland and many more on the verge of declaring that way. There is massive anti Indy. propaganda from all the mainstream media but sensible people do...

Re: Cyclists & oversized hearts!

Just had a chest X-ray since I mentioned to a GP that I had cough. Result “not much worse than last one and got an enlarged heart but we already knew about that so nothing serious”. I also have a dodgy valve which gets an ultrasound every year just to check on it but nobody seems bothered and it doe...

Interesting to see what kind of extra bung is given to the Arlene Foster bunch in return for support.

Re: Riding out of the saddle - unexpected issues.

In my case I think it is an age thing. I cannot ride out of the saddle on any bike now. Cannot quite understand the reason but definitely age related.

Re: Port Appin loop

On reflection PAB855 you will be better doing the Port Appin loop in a clockwise direction and turning left just after the bridge with the narrow path if going towards Appin. Make sure your brakes are in good nick as there is a steep hill down into PA with a bend. When you get to Appin on the return...
