FGM has nothing to do with religion and as for culture, i would say it is more of a habbit. FGM removes certain parts not for the benifit of the woman or any health reasons. FGM is worlds apart from male circumcision. The polite version of expalining is that it involves a lot of cutting of the downstairs area and stiching.
