Re: Mamil bikes

So basically you get a fast bike with a harsh ride that you need to use fatter tyres with- in a dismal black colour. Great. Not interested.. So it's simple - don't buy one. But who says you need the fatter tyres? Tech has moved on, there's plenty of evidence that for most riders there's no disadvan...

Re: Extinction Rebellion

You'll never get individuals to change their ways, governments are the only way forward with stuff like this if for no other reason than a lot of the required changes require top down management. If we relied on that then we're as good as dead already. It would be nice if the government did act, bu...

Mamil bikes

Or maybe called "sportive bikes". Either way, there seems to be a definite trend here: 1. Fast frames with racing pretensions but slightly modified eg more relaxed geometry for sportive riders. 2. All carbon 3. Clearance for wider tyres only possible without mudguards- but in any case no m...

Re: Should we stop using the word 'cyclists'?

I was told i was not a proper cyclist and that people like me make life hard for all other cyclists .... because i don't wear a helmet. Wow. I entertain a vain hope that didn't come from an actual cyclist- but there again, it wouldn't surprise me if it did. The fact that most people who are ...

Re: Team Sky is now Team INEOS

He's into shale gas ...... that should give the usual suspects on here a good platform to "hate speech" him .... You can include local councillors in South Yorkshire and elsewhere in God's own then. The "usual suspects" represent areas that were decimated by pit closures- ...

Re: It's far too dangerous to cycle on the road

Unfortunately that's the norm. Even heavily used key pavements are never salted. And yet walking (and cycling) are promoted and encouraged by government and councils. Which government or council promotes cycling/walking? They might *say* they do, but actions demonstratebotherwise I think you...

Re: Scrapped HS2 bike path "5 times better value"

I'm not a HS2 fan either. A fraction of the bloated budget could have gone on improving local rail services. That would have put an end to the insanity that 2 largeish towns locally that have a regular bus sconnecting the two that takes practically an hour to do 8 miles due to wall to wall traffic, ...

Re: 20-25 tubes in 28mm tires??

I would think - depends on manufacturer of tube and tyre. I generally use the Michelin A2 tube as it does 25-32. You can squeeze these into some 23c covers with care, but not with some rims- done it for years but at your own risk. The Schwalbe equivalent goes up to 28 but is a better match if you're...

Re: Lubricant for S.A. 3 speed hub?

I use Wilkinsons very cheap "oils well" comes in small plastic container with spout. Not as thick as motor oil but seems to work well. People seem to think that traditional motor oil (for old type vehicles) works well also. Whatever you do, avoid Three in One oil. My "shopping trolley...

Re: Elderly drivers: when is it time to hand over the car keys?

When people live in areas that have no, or minimal public transport they are making a choice. Many of these areas are quite expensive to live in. You have to drive everywhere. There are very little local shops, and those that exist are overpriced. So people drive to out of town shopping. A relative ...

Re: Saddles (Probably Again)

You need to know why the Brooks isn't working then look for a style of saddle that addresses the issue. Only after that start considering how to attach a bag. Seconded. A lot of females (including me) have found the Selle Italia Women's Gel saddle works for them; provided your partner finds a cut-o...

Re: How to fix your washing machine

I wish that I hadn't looked at this topic, our 22 year old washing machine has finished its' useful service today. Goodbye old friend - haven't the heart to spin a lump of metal. :( :( :( Ours wasn't quite so old, but I repaired it twice before we gave up and bought a new one. It doesn't take much ...

Or be prepared to factor possible return postage in as a bit of a bet on how the price is so low, or as an occupational hazard of geography if you can only realistically get stuff delivered. If you can try something on in person before purchase I perso...

Re: Sports direct

Having visited my local sports direct, I have returned all the items I purchased. Nothing fits, advised that everyone buys cycling shoes a size bigger than normal? This suggests to me that their sizes are wrong. Tights and jerseys are far too small for the stated sizes. Anyone else used kit from he...
