Re: Converting a Muddy Fox

Definitely ‘silver’ mudguards, that MF bike will look fabulous and ride like a ‘silver bullet’! Don’t forget to show us all the ‘finished product’ Derek.

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

Derek you could also take a look at both Halfords and Decathlon, they have some off the peg bikes that you could just hop on and go, nice new components too and at a price that would be well in your price range. All you may have to do is add a rack, what’s not to like! If you plan to go to Kent, it ...

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

I think those requirements are interesting but I also think as humans we confuse what we want with what we actually need!

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

Well yes, I guess that is it! Of course if one is heading off around the globe then a full on touring bike with a long wheelbase etc etc is imperative. If you want to carry a heavy load and be comfortable with few mechanical problems it would make sense. But the rest of us...?

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

Yes I agree re wheels for touring but my Hobootleg came with 26” Alex wide rims with 36 spokes, Sora 130mm hubs and 35mm tyres. I asked St John Street cycles to make me a pair of Mavic narrow rims with 32 spokes, Sora hubs and I put on 28mm tyres. I ordered them on a Wednesday and they were delivere...

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

Actually one of the reasons I bought my first Cinelli hobo was because it had a short wheelbase (1001cm) and was described as having Cyclecross geometry but it also had very little toe overlap, which as you folk may know is usually a real problem with small bikes. My previous ‘touring bikes’ were, R...

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

No worries, I never take offence! I do have to admit my Cinelli is an xs and has 26” wheels, by responsive I mean it doesn’t feel like you are dragging a large trailer! Oh and I’m 61k (at the moment). But we digress...the op wants a touring bike but what is a touring bike? The answer earlier is the ...

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

For those worrying about the 130mm OLN on the Cinelli hobootleg, you may be interested to know the bike took part in the 2013 Tour d’Afrique. Check it out, google ’ Cinelli Hobootleg Tour d’ Afrique 2013’, the video at the bottom is very entertaining, but the bike is one tough cookie, they certainly...

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

Nothing rides like my Cinelli hobootleg loaded up, you have to ride one to understand, it is SO responsive, unlike the other many tourers I have ridden. One reviewer wrote that he wants to be buried with his Hobootleg! Try and find a secondhand one, not very easy, which says a lot about the bike.

Re: Recommendation for touring bike

Derekn, I would seriously consider a Cinelli Hobootleg, it’s a steel touring/cross bike. It will take front and rear carriers and the frames are all treated with anti corrosion. It is the best bike I have ever owned, you can ride it all day it is so comfortable. All the people who own these bikes se...
