Re: Frames identification?
Thanks Brucey and Polisman for your very interesting and informative input re frames. I have spoken to Mercian who have suggested the Mercian may be a Vincitore, I measured the rear inside dropouts which are 120cm and 960cm wheelbase. The Rory inside rear dropouts are 115cm with 1010cm wheelbase (me...

Frames identification?
Hi, Can anyone help me with 2 frames I have acquired recently. One is a Rory O’Brien track frame, it has 2 sets of 4 digit numbers, one ending in 75, which I assume may be the year of manufacture. It also has a small crown logo at the top of the rear stays, the tubing is either 501 or 531, it’s diff...

Definitely ‘silver’ mudguards, that MF bike will look fabulous and ride like a ‘silver bullet’! Don’t forget to show us all the ‘finished product’ Derek.

Re: Recommendation for touring bike
Derek you could also take a look at both Halfords and Decathlon, they have some off the peg bikes that you could just hop on and go, nice new components too and at a price that would be well in your price range. All you may have to do is add a rack, what’s not to like! If you plan to go to Kent, it ...

I think those requirements are interesting but I also think as humans we confuse what we want with what we actually need!

Re: Recommendation for touring bike
Well yes, I guess that is it! Of course if one is heading off around the globe then a full on touring bike with a long wheelbase etc etc is imperative. If you want to carry a heavy load and be comfortable with few mechanical problems it would make sense. But the rest of us...?

Re: Recommendation for touring bike
Yes I agree re wheels for touring but my Hobootleg came with 26” Alex wide rims with 36 spokes, Sora 130mm hubs and 35mm tyres. I asked St John Street cycles to make me a pair of Mavic narrow rims with 32 spokes, Sora hubs and I put on 28mm tyres. I ordered them on a Wednesday and they were delivere...
