Re: YHA "post Covid"

Some of the best ear plugs can be found in shooting shops, if its sound you need to cut out.
They have to adhere to stringent regs to protect ones hearing, snoring included!

Re: YHA "post Covid"

I like the mix of people you meet at yh’s, old, young, groups of walkers, cyclists, etc, that to me is the attraction. I have camped in my little tent, stayed in dorms and had my own 6 bedded room with en suite but each time it is the people I meet that make it a unique experience.

Re: YHA "post Covid"

Oh dear, what a shame. I have had on the whole good nights at the yha’s. Yes there were some walkers that crashed in to the dormitory at 11.30pm one night and turned on the main light but other than that most people have been very pleasant and considerate. Most of the people I have met have been ext...

Re: YHA "post Covid"

The Yh’s that will survive will be those that have not put all their eggs in one basket. If they only offer 5/6/8 beds rooms and then expect people to ‘buy’ the whole room or hostel, then that is fine for groups or families. If they offer more 2 bedded rooms it opens the hostel up to solo travellers...

Re: YHA "post Covid"

I’ve met some great people in the yha’s over the years and I think it would be extremely sad if the bods that run the yha let it sleepwalk into oblivion over the Covid outbreak. As a single traveller I find meeting other like minded souls very pleasant, on the whole. I do sometimes wonder if the sta...

Re: The age concession: a crisis of conscience

My membership renewal is due January but I have now cancelled my DD through my bank online. Sadly, I can’t say I’m sad.

Re: YHA "post Covid"

When people start staying at a Travelodge or Premier Inn for far less, it will sadly only be a matter of time before the yha will become irrelevant, to all but school parties.. The days of dormitories could be a thing of the past and the yha need to wake up to the fact single travellers need accommo...

Re: YHA "post Covid"

Could this be the death of the YHA for single travellers? I don’t want to hire the whole hostel for one night at £££. The children are back at school and surely the hostels could open for responsible adults? The hostel I want to stay at is one of the hire the whole thing, why? The wardens are marri...

Re: YHA "post Covid"

To ‘be aware’, to wake up to what is going on. The yha need to be aware of what people need or want.

Re: Pictures of your bike(s)

I think ‘folders’ are very user friendly and with 20 in wheels strong enough to light tour on.
Here is my little bike on Harwich Railway Station, I had just crossed two rivers on two little ferries without any difficulties whatsoever, way to go!

Re: Headache after rides

No, I would say ‘it could be’, in fact it could be one of many things. The others on here have mentioned bright sunlight, make sure you get a good pair of sunglasses, squinting can definitely give you a headache. Bike fit, if the front of your bike is too low you may have you head bent back too much...
