Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

Orbea Extra Battery I found this link on another forum with the poster claiming it's the same battery as eBikemotion will be offering, but at a lower price. I don't know if this is true or not, but the specs look similar, however as far as I can see it's not offered with an Orbea compatable connecto...

Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

As an aside - I've just heard that the Orbea extra battery unit (which has some fancy recharging features from what I understand of the spec) is imminent - just waiting for UK certification apparently. BUT the RRP is ~£510.00 ... which is in the range predicted when it was first announced a while a...

Re: Do you know how to identify classic Dawes bikes?

Hi All, anyone know what the attached is? Says Dawes on the rear dropout despite Poyner stickers. BB has BJ278 stamped into it. Cheers , Matt Poyner of Wolverhampton was cycle shop in, err Wolverhampton. I know it's not about your bike, but this post ( https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?t=35...

Re: Cycle Paths

Can anyone tell me, why cycling uk is not promoting the compulsory use of cycle paths? I’m a cyclist and a driver and have just seen the new laws regarding close passing of cyclists. There is nothing more irritating than cyclists on a narrow road when there is a cycle path next to it. I believe the...

Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

On the Orbea you do not get any drag when freewheeling or riding over 15mph, however there is about one seconds worth of drag when you shift from say full power to middle power as the motor readjusts itself, I guess this is where the tittle-tattle comes from and we all know how bad the internet is f...

Re: Trike Conversion

I applaud your efforts to keep your son mobile, but please be aware that the fact the bike has a 750w motor it then becomes a moped rather than an EPAC. Because of that it needs to undergo a Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval test, have a registration plate, be taxed, insured etc to be legal. The Ri...

Re: E-motion app for Orbea Gain

I'm with the other users on this one. The App was interesting to start with, but now I only use it to change the power levels before a ride and see how much battery is left after a ride. I guess it's bit like Strava, some people love all the speed v heart rate v feet climbed stats or where they are ...

Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

Hi where is the best place to buy one of these? I have an ankle problem that has been operated on but on hills it’s just so painful. I’m fairly new to cycling and done my first audax yesterday but every hill my ankle just feels like it is on fire. An e-bike like the orbea should help me continue to...

Re: OBREA GAIN D40 (e-bike)

(snip) Anticipating the inevitability of needing help at some time in the not too distant future I've been looking at the drop handlebar e-bikes as I can't get on with my recently acquired hybrid. There is a lot of useful information in this thread but also some technical bits that give cause for c...

Re: Ribble SLE

I know nothing about electric bikes but am surprised they don't have regenerative braking, it's not rocket science to recharge your battery whilst coasting downhill, and it's pretty simple too. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/51b5da43e4b0c02e88c7f54d/t/58a70f5be6f2e1822670177d/148734...

Re: 4 Day Norfolk Tour Recommendation

Downside:- It's flat (mostly) and whilst that might sound like cycling heaven the lack of hills means lack of views and mega sizes featureless & lifeless fields are a bit monotonous. Conversely, that Spire you can see in the distance can take ages to get too because sometimes you can see thing f...

Re: A question for Orbea Gain riders.

As a D20 rider my gut feeling is you not comparing like with like. The Gain is a true power assisted bike with a lightweight motor and a relatively small capacity battery. It's designed to be used with the majority of the effort coming from the rider with the power assist best kept for making it fee...

Re: E-Bikes rules/Law

I recently came across a webpage for this electric bike . It seems to be claiming to be (EAPC?) legal but I can't see it to be so myself. Doesn't the fact that the advert states "The Model 15 works through a simple twist-and-go handlebar accelerator " make it a moped? Going back to the or...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

On a similar note, why doesn't the UK Government simply ask Ireland to re-join the Union that is the United Kingdom? After all it worked well with the reunification of Germany and we could claim we were simply following a successful example of an EU partnership and Britain wasn’t the bad boy of Eur...
