Re: A place to record lenient sentencing for motorvehicle...
Difficult one. He was driving within the speed limit and presumably his tyres were fine otherwise he would have been done for that. The case does show how vulnerable you are on two wheels.

Re: A place to record lenient sentencing for motorvehicle...
Not a cyclist but a scooter rider but the outcome still beggars belief. Stolen vehicle, over the limit alcohol - 12 month ban and a fine. http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/Father- ... story.html

Re: Should the tea shop close ?
A non-cycling forum I haunt has recently moved all politically contentious threads to a "Belly Locker" area. The site is also configured so these threads are not accessed by Google or non-registered members.

Re: How do you keep your bikes safe overnight
I've stayed in hotels in France where you had to carry the bikes up or down stairs. With a tandem that might be a problem so I think there will be times when the bike may have to be left out side, probably with wheels seat etc removed and a good lock or two. But at least a tandem may be less attractive to a thief.
Thefts do occur, my brother came across two glum cyclists in France last year at breakfast, their bikes had been stolen from the hotel cellar during the night.

There must be other bits of the A6 which can be used, for example Carlisle to Penrith is quiet for most of its length.

I'm just a youngster, joined in 2011 and my first post was about midges! I still hate them. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=51269&p=426208#p426208

Re: Has Jeremy Hunt put our NHS in real jeopardy?
Unfortunately, the NHS is probably already doomed. The problem is it is a free service and there are no limits to demand. We have an aging and increasingly more unhealthy population who expect to be treated for whatever is wrong with them. It was a good idea when it started but I fear it is becoming less viable and the gross inefficiencies it has in the way it is run don't help. Of course no politician is going to say "scrap the NHS" but it does need a good shakeup.

Re: Evil cyclists attack innocent babies
I can't believe there are folk on here trying to excuse the cyclist! He smashed a window of a car with his bike lock. There is simply no justification for such behaviour. The presence of a baby in the back of the car gives it legs in the press although I am happy to give the cyclist the benefit of the doubt they didn't know it was there.
Hopefully the wretch will be identified and subsequently hung out to dry, not least by us cyclists because of the damage they have done to the image of cycling.
So no more excuses like "the glass would have been round not jagged" or whatever the nonsense spoken earlier in this thread was.
No excuses. Pleas in mitigation of punishment only, if anyone feels strongly enough.

The only way to be sure is to ask them. The underwriters might consider cycling as trips to the shops, not knocking off fifty plus miles a day. On the policy I had there was a specific daily mileage limit, but it wasn't something that leapt out at you from the documents.

That's good news. The devil is in the fine print with all policies. Can you say who you are with?

Re: Cycle touring insurance
It is worth mentioning that unless cycle touring is specifically mentioned in a policy it probably isn't covered. It may mention cycling but in the fine print there may be a low limit on the number of days or some other restriction. I've been caught out by this when I discovered my insurer classed cycle touring as a dangerous sport!

I can fly to Faro from Exeter with FlyBe but Porto is a deadend for me. Then I found there is a train linking Porto to Faro.
