Sick of Mars bars....

I'm only new to longer distance cycling .Last w/e i did 105 miles in a day with a view to lejog mid Sept. What became obvious was food/grub/fuel each day needs a bit of thought...I was binging on marathons and mars bars which became sticky ,sickly and messy....Anyone any better suggestions would greatly be appreciated...Nik

2 1/2 chainrings...what to adjust?

I have a Spa cycles Zicral triple chainset thats worked flawlessly over the last 1000miles. Recently when I up shift from the smallest ring to the middle ring the chain overshoots and ends up lying between the middle and outer ring. It doesn't fall down the gap between as the gap is too small. What screw or screws do I adjust to correct this and just as important....why!! Ta Nik

Re: Bordeaux to Chamonix...thoughts

just a quick note to finish
The wife loved it!!! she wants to go again! We didnt have any technicals, no punctures but the chains needed caring for on the way. It seemed like it was best to have a garmin each, but we relied on one only, the second as a spare. Always have a good map.We ended up using the Garmin to take us to each days destination and rarely put a foot wrong. Be careful ...when you ask it how far a town say Paris, is away ,it says say 50km...Then when you say you want to ride to Paris it says calculating route and comes up with 65km...wife didn't like this. We had a Anker power pack that kept the garmins and phones happy. The sun was so strong we set off at 8am and was finished by 3pm.The route we took was perfect....many many thanks for the suggestions...Bordeaux to Toulouse to Bezier to Aiges more and then up the Rhone to Annecy and finally Samoans. As flat as it gets...The canal du midi is pretty same after 3 days so we went on the roads. A lot of roadside stops and cafes have closed which was a pity. Booking com was brill...booked it in the am for the eve.
Soz for the ramblings Nik

Re: Bordeaux to Chamonix...thoughts

Put chains in with washing.... spotless!
Doing about 50k a day ( wife likes sound of k as it goes quicker!) Cycle for three days , no not non stop! Then a day off for servicing the bodies/ laundry and generally chilling out. Breaky is anything you want as long as it’s crusty bread and croissants. With the sun so hot we are on the road by 8am and cycle till 2. There are very few places to have a wee cup of coffee on route, unlike 30 years ago. Just for the record we’re both 60. Wife not as enthusiastic as myself and I can see her looking at those electric touring bikes. There everywhere! We use anti chaff cream each morning with no problems. I’ve offered to put the wife’s on but she declined!! I’ll keep you posted

Re: Bordeaux to Chamonix...thoughts

Late reply! Now 10 days into cycle! Eventually decided on Bordeaux to Sete to Aiges Norte to Arles , up Rhône valley , turn right to Chamonix
What I’ve learnt so far ... arrived Bordeaux with bikes in box’s. Booking. Com has been first class re accomadation. About £65/ nite double with bnb. Great quality with very helpful people. The canal du midi can be monotonous after 75 miles so we headed onto B roads. Always carry a good detailed paper map. We only booked a day ahead. Took about a week to settle wife/bike as one! Bought a much shorter stem, moved the saddle back 1 cm and fine. Tyres.. swhalbe marothon plus.. no punctures.. used them for years. Both chains need cleaning every 5 days...Currently sitting in Launderette waiting for the rain to stop... cheers nik

Re: wife's triple...difference in mid chain ring distance....

Mmmmm...that 50mm cm chain line would make sense after looking at my wifes original set up...Why would they do that compared to a road bike 47mm?
IN THEORY i'm I not best then keeping the original 50mm? Nik
